Really would have liked to see him called up but difficult to bench Vargas right now. He’s having a really good year at AAA.

What I'd say is, if the plan is to give Adams or Ruiz at bats in positions other than catcher, then the Barrera call up makes sense. The only other argument against an Alu call up is 40 man roster management. If he's not going to be added after the season, then it doesn't make sense to add him now, and even if he is going to be added, they may not want to be schmucks and DFA a guy like Cesar or Boomstick at this point. I'm sure neither the Clippard or Franco decisions were happy times.
