It kind of confirms what a great deal the CWS made. I'll not get into the "but we dealt for Eaton and won a WS where he came up big" argument because it's reality and hard to argue the reality without messing with the multiverse. It's just that when we are thinking about what could be the payoff from dealing Soto, it's a bit of a confidence builder to see that sometimes the prospects you get back in a deal can all hit.
Of course, Eaton tore his knee apart at the beginning of his first season with the Nats. He was a fine OF before and a good hitter. But, yes: sometimes prospects can turn out OK.
Of course, my favorite trade is still Claude Osteen, an ace, for the young slugger Frank Howard (27 yo), 3B Ken McMullen (22 yo), and young pitchers Phil Ortega (24) and the dazzling Pete Richert (24), who was traded, later, for Mike Epstein (24 yo).
Then there was the trade in 1960 of the great Roy Sievers for backup catcher catcher Earl Battey (24 yo) and the prospect Don Mincher (22 yo).
