We'll see if Atlanta can pull this off after losing their top starter. It's interesting to see the success they're having given their pitching staff, in contrast to the Nats/Dodgers philosophy that you need 3 ace-level starters.

Remaining starter regular season ERAs:
Fried 3.04
Anderson 3.58
Smyly 4.48
Ynoa 4.05

Morton / Fried /Anderson could match anyone's 3 aces.  Not quite the Doyers by rep, but they never were able to put [Bauer / Scherzer] together with Kershaw and Buehler for sustained stretches.

Not surprising they don’t mention the Astros cheating.  The announcers don’t mention the Pats cheating scandals every broadcast.  :hysterical:
Besides, the commissioner wouldn’t approve and fox knows what side their bread is buttered.

What would the commissioner do cancel the contract? I'm sure fox would be crushed to not have to pay $730 million a year through 2028 to a sport with declining interest

I am sure announcers in any sport will talk about scandals so even more fans turn off the broadcast.  :hysterical:

Have you seen the mannings’ broadcast?

Just part of one.  They mostly jabbed each other.  Don't recall Eli bringing up Peyton exposing himself to the female trainer at Tennessee.  Maybe I missed that.

They are not going to emphasize the negative - they might not get a contract renewed if they make it a habit. And if you don’t know that they are in bed together I don’t know how I can explain it to you. See coverage of the nfl scandals on the networks.

Agreed, they are all alike - hype artists disguised as neutral narrators.

They showed a statue of Aaron at the Truist Park. I guess they got cheap when they built it. Didn't have 7 bats. No Josh Gibson.

I remember Lonborg.  At that point, it was the closest anyone had gotten to a World Series no-no since Don Larson.  He was perfect I think through 6 and kept the no-hitter going I think into the 8th.

Didn’t he mess up his career with a skiing accident?  Had some decent years with the Phillies in the 1970s. Looked it up and he is still alive at 79.

yes.  The winter of 67-68.  Never was close to his Cy Young level, but kicked around for a number of years before becoming a dentist.  The dentist thing was a bit ironic, because in '67, he had Sal Maglie as his pitching coach. Maglie was known as "the Barber" for his close shaves pitching inside.  In '67, Lonborg started to drill guys more often on his way to his Cy Young, so folks noted he was studying dentistry.

I don't know how Smoltz stays neutral in these games. He has to be dying for Atlanta to win this.
