From Tampa Tribune:

Quote
Veteran RHP Jay Witasick, who was released by Oakland last week, will sign with the Rays today and is expected to be in uniform for tonight's game against the Padres at Tropicana Field... Several teams have inquired about trading for OF Elijah Dukes, with the Washington Nationals reportedly among them, but no deal is imminent.

The fact that they went out and got Witasick would tell me that they are going to try and hold on to Dukes. They're all about the young players and I couldn't see us making a deal w/ any of our prospects, even the B- or C rated ones.

Or maybe it means we get Dukes plus some garbage throw in reliever that we can hopefully turn around. I actually look forward to that. Give us a guy like Colome who throws hard and let St.Claire fix him

Josh Wilson?

The D-Rays are tough to trade with as they always asks for something absurd in return.  Dealing with them is like dealing with a spoiled 12-year old.  They'd consider Dukes for and Church and Zimmerman a fair trade.

Man, I hope you're right, but all they really want right now is a reliever. I guess I'd give up Saul for him, but his cutter (when it's working) is one of the best. If we gave them Rauch, I'd need Dukes to be much better when he got here. Rauch is the man!

Rauch Used to be the man.

I think he'll be back in form in no time. He just doesn't seem like he'd stay in a rut for too long. Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to keep him around for a while.

I'm not going to say I don't want him, but he's not the immortal Rauch to me anymore.  Not that a few stellar outings wouldn't change that...

The only way he could become the man again TODAY is if we got Dukes for him :)

Maxwell is 23 and put up some good numbers in Low A this year.  Dukes put up Maxwell like numbers in AA as a 20/21 year old in 2005.

edit Maxwell's numbers were a little better, but nonetheless, at 23 he is picking on little kids in Low A

I think the team is watching Maxwell very closely, and I have very high hopes that he will be the CF of the future (hopefully sooner than later.) But I am not sure if we will see him in DC this year. I would love it if he is was a September call-up, but he is still only in Potomac. If he performs there anyway like he did in Hagerstown and gets to Harrisburg quickly, that would be awesome. I would love to see him move through the system like Zimmerman did post draft. But Zimmerman only played 4 games in A ball before playing 63 games in AA ball in Harrisburg where he went .326/.371/.528 in 233 ABs. That got him the September callup. Maxwell would have to be promoted pretty quickly from Potomac.

I have to accept that one cuz it's too funny, but if Dukes sucks (when and if he gets here) and Rauch goes and becomes a Cy Young award winning starter for the Devil Rays, I blame you.

He is off to a hot start, but I think they would like to see him for at least a month at Potomac before any more promotions.

I would certainly hope so. They aren't rushing these guys. Maxwell is older, so hopefully he progresses quickly. But they need to see that happen, and there is no real rush.

Especially if he continues with his hot pace since joining the P'Nats. The numbers will come down, but three multi-hit games in 3 games played is still a pretty impressive start.

Yes it is. I'm trying not to get overly optimistic, but as discussed in the "Mark my words thread" it's hard not to have high hopes for what a kid like Maxwell could mean to this club as an everday CF.

There's no question that Maxwell has the potential and the tools to make it. Oddly enough, he reminds me a lot of another up and coming minor league center fielder back in the Expos days. That center fielder was Andre Dawson, and what would the Nats do with an Andre Dawson type player in their lineup everyday. I believe Maxwell may even outdo Dawson, because I believe Dawson was brought up too fast. The Expos were too impressed with his numbers. I think had he played another half season in AAA, Dawson would have been a monster in the bigs.

I'd have to check my records, but I'm pretty sure that is the most glowing endorsement you have ever given of any of the Nats players/prospects. You feeling alright?

Dukes is leading in the Hit Tracker "Golden Sledgehammer" rankings.  This measures a HR's average distance.

That's a really telling stat for a guy who could play at RFK.  That means most, if not all, of those shots would still be homers even at this cavernous stadium.

blasphemous. even the jewish prince takes ofense to taking the name of Jesus in vain.

nospin, the picture and the caption posted by NOTLD simply means that Jesus was tough enough, ready and able to take on all comers. There is nothing blasphemous about it.

To find out, I send a screen capture of it a priest friend I've know for decades, and his response was, and I quote, "Right on, Jesus. Ken, do you remember when you were young and I told you that Jesus was tough, because of what he had to endure for us. Well, now the word is getting out and that just shows it."

He said he was going keep the image I sent, because it was a another way of saying God is powerful and fears nothing.
