Wish granted.

Laviolette. Three years. Clearly the key factor is to hire someone who coached the Predators, since that worked out well before.

$4 million per year plus they are picking up the $2.5 million Nashville was paying him for next season.

So basically they are getting Laviolette for the money they could have spent to keep Trotz.

Good choice probably.  One or two more runs with the old gang.

Lavy following Trotz around.

They have the same number of Cups. And Lavy has three finals appearances to one for Trotz.

Should have hired Dusty Baker when they had the chance...

Color me unimpressed...though at this point, not sure they had any better options...

I am happy to see the VGK's bounced from the playoffs...never cared for Fleury, likely just because he was a Pinguin, and I was somewhat disappointed in Schmidt's nagy behavior in the handshake line in 2018, having been a big fan of his while he was here.

I will say that the Caps did a piss poor job of welcoming Schmidt to the phonebooth/ATM on his first appearance back as a GK...embarassing, really...as they made a brief mention of it during a faceoff while he was on the ice rather than a big deal during a stoppage in play, so I guess he may have had hard feelings as well.  He's a good player, with personality, and I wish we could have kept him.

Kempny tore his Achilles while training in the Czech Republic.  Had surgery, and will be out 6-8 months...

So, that's the bad news...the only good news is it will free up most of his $2.5MM cap hit...

Great, extra money to spend on an over the hill defenseman and an even older goalie

Caps taking a very Rizzo approach to the draft in picking Hendrix Lapierre who fell due to injury concerns. He had three concussions in a 10 month span.

Cue the jokes about finding a way to jimi the new draft pick into the lineup....

ANd overrated
Maybe. But you said he was over the hill. No reason to believe that. Niskanen had a very good season last year at 35.

I thought I read free agency begins at noon today, though I may be mistaken.

it's official, they signed him to a one year deal.  He will get to continue to wear his Rangers uniform though. :)
