Probably I would have started the guy who hit the walk off the night before, but that's only because I wanted the Nats to sweep the Phillies, Martinez seems to have had some other plan in mind.

Wonder what that conversation with Zim sounded like.     Was it dave's idea?    Did Zim acquiesce or protest about not being in the lineup (a la Werth)?     Did Zim request the day off?

Difo knows what kind of player he is and what he needs to do he doesn't need a man who knows virtually nothing about baseball to tell him how to play.
Wilmer has an OPS of .661 this year. About 100 points below the MLB average. I think he can use all the advice he gets. His inability to produce anything that would remotely come close to replacing Murphy and Kendrick is one of the reasons the team is at .500.

Yea. I wonder the same thing. Everything doesn’t always come out. Gabe Kapler rested Wilson Ramos Tuesday even after an off day Monday. He said it was to give him extra rest for the hamstring. And Alfaro has good numbers against Roark. Didn’t make sense to me. Turns out Wilson had injured his finger which was apparently the real reason.

Can’t fathom why Zimm had the day off after missing so much time. We may never know.

Will the Nats lackluster season cost Scherzer and Soto awards?

Well, given Scherzer should be something like 22-2 and right now, possibly.  I'd think Soto is still ROY favorite.

Z-man is no Werth, he's not rocking the boat, he's like Stras they know that their long term health is more important than any one season.

Would you include Harper in that group?

Yeah and Davey's advice will fix that  :hysterical:

Maybe not but perhaps they have concluded that his offense has sputtered this year for that reason and want him to change.

I have plenty to question on davey.  This isn't really one of them.  Non story.  He's back next year so you need to get used to it.

Soto is costing himself an award with this slump right as Acuna is hot.

I would think that Ronald Acuna Jr. is the favorite, especially being a major factor in the Braves' success.

Their slash lines are virtually identical. It will likely depend on who has the better September.

No, he came back with a bad knee last year.

Guess I'm still in the "unsure" column.

Maybe, but I suspect Acuna will get the award based on the Braves' success if it's close.

We'll see. If Acuna falls off and Soto doesn't, Soto will win it. If they stay neck and neck, then yeah, the Braves success will likely be the tiebreaker.

Will Martinez win worst manager? He certainly made the least of the talent he was given.

He had the rep of being an analytics guy, but that did not prove out.

shutout back to back.

To quote Davey

“In all honesty, it was an ugly game and everybody saw it”

Replace game with season.

Martinez just matched Baker's loss total from 2017 and there is a week left in August.

The month of September will be very telling. Can Davey keep the boys focused and upbeat while playing meaningless games? Or do they mail it in and basically quit on the season? I think it could go a long way towards deciding Davey’s future. We all know Rizzo doesn’t want to fire the guy after 1 year. He might have no choice. I’ve never seen a team underachieve like this.

‘15 was pretty ugly. We all remember the choking incident. The mutiny in the clubhouse against Matt Williams. Williams being boo’d by fans after a post game presser.

The one thing Davey has going for him is that the players seem to like him. He's a nice guy. Unfortunately, I don’t think the players respect him.

Oakland and the Rays. Lerners ought to be asking some tough questions of Mr. Rizzo as to how the Nats might become as good as those two often-bottom feeding teams. Front office and manager might be a good place to start.

Nationals record with Mike Rizzo as GM: 827-759

Oakland over the same time: 797-790
Tampa Bay over the same time: 826-762

Yea, imma stick with Rizzo taking a bottom feeding, consecutive 100 loss team and turning them into perennial division champs.

What did we say about giving Martinez ideas.
