Kendrick is it an every day MLB 2B defensively anymore. Even before his injury. He has spent most of the last few years in the OF.  The real back up was Difo. Unfortunately he fell off offensively this year.

Look at the bright side. Kendrick’s injury forced them to call up Soto.

everyday players tend to want to play everyday. That means that you either have to have them in your system, Difo was the best we could manage, or you trade for them. Do you really want to give up assets for a starting quality backup?

That’s always the dilemma when you are a contending team. Same with starting pitching depth. Bottom line is 2B was a black hole much of the season and they had a hole in the rotation.

Every worst-case scenario came true this year. Even finding a stud in Soto (something no one expected) couldn't counter-act a terrible first-half from Harper, the pitchers falling apart, all the injuries, Martinez's mistakes, etc.

I think the black hole was catcher and a # 3 more so than 2B. Howie was the plan B and Difo the back up to him. The fact that as of today , of the 7 RP only two were on the OD roster.

It's the bullpen. Even with the crap first half and the injuries, If Doolittle and Herrera are healthy the Nats are a maximum of 3.5 games out of first right now.  That's right in contention.

If they don't fire this guy I'm not watching any more games the rest of the season. He Needs to GO!

In his press conference, Murphy called Martinez “absolutely the right man for the job.”
Not sure what to make of that, considering Murph is on his way out the door, but since it’s coming from Murphy, it’s a little more noteworthy than from Harper who never met a manager he didn’t like,

Murph is about to play for Maddon, so that could have had something to do with it.

He means "I'm going to the Cubs, so I'm glad the Nats got Martinez out of there, now I don't have to put up with him anymore"

Seventh manager in Nats history and the first to have his season end in a fire sale.

Unless you mean "first season end in a fire sale," you're completely wrong.

And even if that's what you meant, you're still fairly wrong because Riggleman's first partial season and first full season both had multiple significant late-season trades wherein the Nats moved vets for prospects.

:hysterical:

Martinez is a buffoon and “will be fired” at years end. Him blaming Solis for that loss the other day is one of the worse things I’ve ever seen coming for a so-called leader at a press conference. DISGRACEFUL!!!!!

Come over here little pig/dave!

SLAUGHTER!!!  🔪🐷

I don't mean to pick on you specifically, but this post is one of the funniest example of WNFF hyperbole and irony I've ever seen.  "Every worst-case scenario came true" immediately followed by a mention of an out-of-nowhere likely RoY campaign from a player who started the season in Hagerstown.  Functionally having a middle of the order hitter appear out of thin air is the exact opposite of worst case scenarios.

I mean he’s not wrong. Maybe he didn’t mean every single thing was worst case scenario. But usually when you’re looking back on a season, a breakout like Soto’s is one of the things you cite as a reason that outperformed expectations. The fact that the Nats underperformed so badly in spite of Soto is just further proof of how badly this season has gone off the rails. Dave wasted a gift that was dropped in his lap.

Laugh now, but watch the sweep happen.

Prediction was nullified with the Murphy and Adams trades, plus the rain.

Yea because a bench bat and a DH trying to play second base was the difference

Per Zuckerman

“Martinez told Difo after homering last night to remember that’s not who he really is”

WTF? What a stupid thing to say. I think Difo knows who he is. Contact guy who can occasionally launch one.

Same thing he said to Severino. The same guy who had them practicing walk off home runs is now Debbie Downer. No wonder they hate him.

It's just reminding him that he is not a slugger and needs to work to put the ball in play and get on base, some of you nag just to be nagging
