I think a strong case can be made to fire Martinez, immediately. As in today.  Not because we might have a chance to win the division.  But there is a toxic disease affecting the whole team, and I suspect there is a small handful of players they need to get rid of.  I don’t want to speculate on who they are and I’m not even sure management knows (I don’t think Rizzo knows what’s going on based on his moves at the deadline).     They need to identify these bad seeds.  To do that, they need a manager, not “one of the guys”, who will insist that they play hard and play to win.  A manager who will push them hard every game (and between games) the rest of the season will expose the culprits. If they wait until the end of the season to fire Martinez, they will lose that opportunity.

I think those "bad seeds" are long-term Nats (Zimm, Gio, and Harper come to mind) who have been on the team through the tenures of Williams, Dusty, and now Davey. Changing managers seems not to really produce a different result. Better to start cleaning out the actual roster more IMO.

that's right fire a guy who has taken you to 2 division titles and has taken other teams to playoffs and titles over the years because you don't like 1 move he made and never mention the ridiculously bad moves Maddon made that whole series l

:hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

karma is REAL
I thought the Dusty apologist disappeared but no he is back still beating the same drum.

So you’re saying this is for firing Williams?

This.  The locker room is infected.  Banishing Kintzler didn't help.  In fact it probably made things worse among our pampered core.

It’s been that way for awhile, remember Harper getting chocked by paplebon or werth asking Williams when he lost the locker room?

This is correct, although I'd replace Gio with Werth in your list, one down two to go.

BOOM!!! Touch ‘em all slugger!

There is certainly something toxic in the Nationals clubhouse and Dave Martinez seems to have made things even worse with his lack of leadership qualities. Little dave reminds me of a parent trying to be their child’s best friend instead of actually being a parent. This —> D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R. DISASTER!!!

Rizzo knows who the clubhouse lawyers are but he likely won’t do Jack because he has also proven to be as nutless as the players  he’s putting out on that field. Show some nuts Rizzo and move those bums out. Move 3 out at a time until they shut  their freaking mouths and begin to play as a team.

I’m excited about a clean slate / fresh start. Get rid of all the whiny beaches and bring in some blue collar guys that we can all root for.

Go Senators!!!

Bryce loves Davey. Says he would run through a wall for him. I’m starting to think Bryce runs this team. Davey has catered to him all season. Batting him 3rd/cleanup when he was hitting 200. Playing him in CF when he clearly lacks the athleticism and instincts to play the position. I’m tired of watching him misread/not get to balls that should be caught. Play him in RF! There’s a gold glove caliber CF on the bench. See if Eaton is healthy enough to play CF.

The toxicity talk is funny to me. People really can’t accept when their teams don’t play well. I suppose it all fits in well with the conspiracy mode that everyone seems to be in nowadays.

Martinez is coming back for better or worse. Rizzo will not admit that quickly that he made a mistake again with a managerial hiring.

The more important thing is how they fill the lineup and pitching holes:

2B
C
SP (1 or 2)
Multiple relief pitchers.
1B. At least someone to take over when Zimm goes in the DL.

This will be the most openings in several years which will make the offseason more interesting.

I have a sneaky suspicion they will work something out with Harper. Not really in favor of that but wish they would play MAT every day to increase his trade value if that’s the plan.

Actually Boras runs the team. Bryce is his on site manager.

It’s funny how some think Werth is a bad seed and others think he was the glue who held it all together.

Probably so, and it will be bad, if he thought he was under pressure this year wait until he struggles like this again next season. It's going to be a crap storm.

Maybe. I’ve learned over the years it’s hard to predict what will happen.

Robles coming in September.

They could do the Phils a solid and drop the games this week.

When the manager points fingers at his players after a loss and says things as asinine as, “I don’t know what else I can do”????.... that in itself lays a pretty solid foundation for a toxic clubhouse.
Dave Martinez has absolutely no leadership qualities and lacks even the most simplistic  managerial instincts of this game.
Rizzo would do better for himself by firing little dave now than allowing him to linger on scapegoating his own players. Give one of our Minor League guys a chance by finishing  out the season.

I haven’t heard this kind of talk since Charlie Manuel’s first years in Philly.  :hysterical:

Agree he has done a poor job on and off the field. Better get ready because he will be back.

I predict a Roark, Strasburg and Scherzer sweep against Philly this week.

If he comes up this year he either gets called up later in 2019 or we lose a year of control, better to leave him down.

As humiliating as today was, this wouldn’t surprise me. With the way Roark has been pitching, i’d put those 3 guys up against anybody.

I've been wrong about MLB roster rules in the past but I think it counts.

Doesn’t make sense to me. Why would anyone call up players?

Only if we get three complete games.
