Wonder if he can come back. Not easy from an Achilles.

Howie can do anything...  :judge:

Of course. He’s a former Phillie.

You do know that he missed almost all of the first half last season due to injury. Getting old.

The dodgers may be our doppelgänger, lost today via walk off balk, falling to third in the division and fifth in the WC, with another Davey.

Checking out Twitter and 106.7 with all the Martinez and Rizzo bashing, welcome to the party everyone, it's about time. If the fan base hadn't gone happily along supporting every bad move maybe we wouldn't have be here now.

Except their Davey has been to a World Series.

I think a strong case can be made to fire Martinez, immediately. As in today.  Not because we might have a chance to win the division.  But there is a toxic disease affecting the whole team, and I suspect there is a small handful of players they need to get rid of.  I don’t want to speculate on who they are and I’m not even sure management knows (I don’t think Rizzo knows what’s going on based on his moves at the deadline).     They need to identify these bad seeds.  To do that, they need a manager, not “one of the guys”, who will insist that they play hard and play to win.  A manager who will push them hard every game (and between games) the rest of the season will expose the culprits. If they wait until the end of the season to fire Martinez, they will lose that opportunity.

This.  The locker room is infected.  Banishing Kintzler didn't help.  In fact it probably made things worse among our pampered core.

I can’t imagine anyone would complain if he’s fired tonight.

The key to this whole matter is for Rizzo to convince the Lerners that "Managers Matter".   Then offer Girardi $7M to manage for the remainder of the season with an option (his option) for next season at $10M.   (The $7M and $10M are just numbers out of space but you get the idea.)

that's right fire a guy who has taken you to 2 division titles and has taken other teams to playoffs and titles over the years because you don't like 1 move he made and never mention the ridiculously bad moves Maddon made that whole series l

Why does Joe deserve 10 million?

Also don’t hire him until offseason. Why should he suffer lol

Hire buck from Baltimore

What they should have done is keep baker this year and hired buck next year.

As I've been saying the problem is organizational and systemic, and starts at the top with Mark Lerner and him pressing buttons he shouldn't be pressing. Keep in mind when Dusty was let go they didn't just fire Dusty - Maddox, Schu and Davey Lopes also left as a result. No continuity with the coaches (except Henley) and a rookie manager who rolls out some camels during spring training and clearly doesn't have a clue what he's doing in running a clubhouse. Zim decides to play his "face of the franchise" card and takes all of ST off with Davey's backing, Bryce pisses all over him publicly and Davey's response is to call out Severino for a bat flip and Solis for not getting lefties out while acting as if everything else is just peachy.

Meanwhile Gio has gone mental again this season and the bullpen has been a disaster in the last 6 weeks thanks to DL stints and trades. Stras can't stay healthy and the lineup takes a 9-inning nap in most games.

Can't wait to see how Mark and Mike spin this mess at season's end, my guess is a letter from Mark to the fans stating "our profound disappointment at how the season went but you have our word we'll do our best to put the best team possible on the field in 2019" and Rizzo will make the local talk show rounds assuring the fans that a better team will be on the field next season all while expressing support for Davey and the coaching staff.

Lol, Maddox, Schu and Lopes?!?!

Maddox has shown hes nothing special in St. Louis.

Schu was probably the most maligned position coach in all of baseball. Dont forget that under his tenure we watched three pathetic postseason hitting performances

Lopes was great. But he was going to retire one way or another

Was the pitching not great the last 2 years? Did they not have one of the best offenses in the NL last year? Postseason is a crap shoot and a small sample size, we all know that, and by the way in 3/5 games against the Cubs the offense scored 6, 5 and 8 runs in games 2, 4, and 5.

Are you happy with the job Kevin Long has done this season?

They had more health in the last two seasons, respectively,  than Martinez did in 2018

Nats are 4th in runs scored in the second half. You know since they've been healthy and Bryce stopped trying to hit 50 homers.

Randy Knorr to finish out the year.  Girardi or Buck next year.

The whole crew seems to work invisibly to me and unable to offer any help or changes in approach to affect the status quo this year. All we have to gauge their work is the won-loss record which screems that they are also part of the problem.

Why would either one of them come over here?

The Lerners dont pay
The Nats now have less talent
The Lerners meddle in baseball decisions.
