This one is on Davey. Clearly had Miller warming up in case Bote hit a single or double and made it 3-1 or 3-2 and would have pulled Madson at that point, but should not have left him in once he hit the 2nd batter and the bases were juiced. Was clear as day Madson didn't have it tonight. Davey was asleep at the wheel yet again in a pressure situation.

This is right, everyone could see that Madson was giving up a run, camel brain for some reason was waiting for it to happen.

I'm the biggest Davey detractor here (maybe 2nd behind PowerBoater) but I have a hard time blaming last night on Davey.  He had everything lined up but it was Madson/Difo that gagged.  I could question why he dry humped Miller again last night, but I'm too numb to contemplate that right now.

At least this laid to rest any hopes we may have for winning the division. The Nats will be lucky to finish with a winning record.

If we get Doolittle and Strasburg back and Gonzo and Roark keep us in games we should have a chance. But it won't happen because Martinez manages to lose every close game. The will to win is absent in that clubhouse.

So multiple times pitchers have pitched with injuries. That’s because the pitchers don’t feel comfortable being honest with him or he’s not listening to them or the training staff. All of those things are on the manager...

Doolittle and Stras have nothing to do with our consistent failure all season to score more than 3 runs in a game. I know Hamels is good but ... last night we were lucky to score three considering we had a whopping 3 hits.

“We left here with one win. We should have had three,” said Nationals Manager Dave Martinez, staring out at nothing, his voice as hollow as his eyes after a devastating 4-3 loss on a walk off grand slam. Story via @chelsea_janes.

That's too funny

No. This has been a thing in DC for a while and is an issue throughout sports in general.

Remember when Joe Maddon kept intentionally walking Bryce Harper to get to Zimmerman and Zim couldn't do crap? He was hurt. He'd been playing for a month with a shoulder injury. Hell, on more than one occasion, Harper has been hurt and stayed in the lineup (looking at you, 2016). Scherzer was banged up at the end of last season and tried to pitch through it. That's why he was only available for one start in the postseason.

Koda Glover last season did it. This is a thing in sports. Players try to play hurt because they think their team needs them and they believe they can gut through. Unfortunately, getting athletes to believe that they aren't capable is difficult. And yes, coaches/managers need to step in, but they also have to know about the problem beforehand.

How is that on the manager? Pitchers hiding injuries from managers and coaches is a tale as old as time. No one wants to go on the DL.

“We played good, we really did,” a still-beaten-down Davey Martinez said. “We played good this series, got to keep going. Stinks that we lost two games when we should’ve come out with three wins, but let’s keep going. I tell the boys we gotta keep going. We’re good, and we’re going to be good.”

Poor Davey. Sounds like a little league coach.

I wonder if they went to Dairy Queen after the game?  No sprinkles, of course...

I mean, at this point what's he going to say?  "My team is a bunch of choking dogs save Max, Murph and Soto"?

the Nats are playing playoff baseball right now.  We've seen this kind of loss 4 of the last 6 years.

I feel your pain. I didn't have great expectations awhile back when I placed bets with BS. Up until last nite I was willing to lose the bet. Now I know I will win and a good charity will reap the largess. Too many choking dogs on this team.

Fire Davey and hire Jayson Werth for the rest of the season. Promise him a 5 year deal if the Nats make it to the playoffs. What have you got to lose? Werth hates the Phillies so much it just might work.

I think that's the term Max used, too. It will feel that way for a while unless they turn it around.

We're gonna need to start a Go Fund Me to pay off bs's charity debts.

Nah. Pizza Hut. They were in Chicago, after all, and needed to get authentic deep dish pizza.

Guy's options tonight were Tommy Milone, Wander Suero, Jim Miller, Sammy Solis, Greg Holland (washed up Greg Holland, not good Greg Holland) and Koda Glover.

The guy made mistakes, has freaked up a ton, deserves blame, but holy crap what a lineup of turds.
