I’ts not hindsight. I’ve been saying this since I’ve been on this board. Use your best pitchers in the highest leverage situations and deal with it later.
I’m also not the only person who subscribes to this school of thought.

The dumbest reason in the world to do something is because that’s what’s always been done in the past.

Madson :lmao: I guess we all missed the homer that he gave up yesterday with a 4 run lead.

And to top it all off, even the WaPo is covering up this extreme freak up by Dave! I just seen the article for the game! And they said Madson was needed to close!

Why is the WaPo covering it up. Trump was right! The news is hella freaking crooked.

You should write all this in a comment on the story's page.

It was a joke, but seriously, Davey is no better.  He constantly looks like a tourist looking for the nearest bus stop.

Yep. He hasn't given me any hope or expectation that he's going to be a top notch MLB manager going forward.

Dave Martinez is a really nice guy who is never going to demand attention to detail or hold people accountable for their play.  It is all about balance and passion and I see none of that with him.  Anyone up for a run at Buck Showalter when he gets fired at the end of the year?

And...So you give up a homer and you don’t pitch again? Did the homer make his ERA 8? Aroldis Chapman blew a two run lead last week. Did the Yankees stop letting him close?

Buck is 10x the manager Davey will ever be but ... this season with the O's has got to have taken a terrible mental and physical toll on the man. Needs a year off to try to recover.

Hes 37. Like maybe using him on back to back stressful outings is not a good idea?

I didn’t even say Madson. Are you honestly saying Greg Holland was the best pitcher in the bullpen?

:lmao: should he not have?

Madson has said on multiple occasions he doesnt like closing.
The last time he came in, he gave up a bomb.
His control was crap all night. He hit two batters.

Martinez should have yanked him. If it were Herrera or Doolittle, I'd understand. But it's a guy that has struggled all year, in a situation he doesnt want to be in.

EXACTLY. you cant allow a guy that hit 2 batters to continue. Its not Bruce Sutter here. Its a journeyman guy lucky to have a job. Some of the guys defending Madson, my God, stop defending him like he's Mariano Rivera. He is 2 notches above a scrub.

It’s hard to blame Davey for this one. That was just a complete meltdown in the 9th. Difo’s error was the first snowball. Then Madson hits 2 batters. Then the avalanche. Quite impressive actually. I don’t even remember Soriano pulling something like this off. Pinch hit walk off grand slam.

I do wonder why Miller was warming up. What was the point? He should’ve came in after Madson hit Contreras. This was a must win game. A series the Nats very well could’ve swept, they lose 2/3 in soul crushing fashion.

I did think that the 2 hit batsmen was a clue that it might not have been his night and that examining other options was warranted...

This one is on Davey. Clearly had Miller warming up in case Bote hit a single or double and made it 3-1 or 3-2 and would have pulled Madson at that point, but should not have left him in once he hit the 2nd batter and the bases were juiced. Was clear as day Madson didn't have it tonight. Davey was asleep at the wheel yet again in a pressure situation.
