Thanks MG.  You're right in that it was quite moving.  He got the full treatment - caisson, honor guard, band, and 21 gun salute.  Those guys were out there in blue woolen unis in the 90 degree heat standing at attention.  He's in section 56 with a view of the Custis-Lee mansion, Pentagon, Washington monument, and Rosslyn (oh well, ;) ).  My mom and all my sibs were quite proud and very pleased with everything that was done for us. After 20 years in the Army and 20 years with the NSA, he deserved every bit of the special treatment.

    I'm glad your dad received a deserved full honors funeral.    Rest assured, the soldiers participating in the ceremony take special pride in doing their duty for your dad and the family.

Oh man, that's a rough one.     He was one of the few reason I ever watched SNL.    Saw him live at the Birchmere, the Frederick CO (MD) fair years ago and Wolf Trap (IIRC one of the "barns").

I saw him when he opened for Tom Waits at the Warner. Weird is mild

My FiL received that a couple of years ago - it was very powerful.  Glad you were able to be there for your old man's.

Dr. John

I think I saw him at AU in 1973.    They had an outdoor amphitheater of some kind on campus.

Jim Pike, 82, lead singer of the Letterman. The youngsters here, those who say aren't familiar with Lonesome Dove may not recall this group from the 60's.

Luis Alvarez, a retired NYPD bomb squad detective who described for Congress his 9/11-related medical issues during an impassioned appeal for an extension of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, died Saturday in a hospice in New York. He was 53.

The 9/11 responders who worked on the recovery were worse off than the responders to Chernobyl in some ways.  At least the guys who capped Chernobyl knew it was a death sentence.  The 9/11 responders were not given accurate information about the risks.  In some ways, it was suppressed.  It is common knowledge among air pollution experts that, if you have a lot of '90s-era plastic around in computers and office furniture and incomplete combustion, you would get dioxins forming.  But not all chemicals are monitored for, including ambient dioxins. Any reassurances about air quality that did not mention what was not monitored for was . . . to put it in the most understated way, deceptive.

Lee Iacocca

Kind of odd but I googled him the other day and was surprised, at the time, that he was still alive.

Can't remember whether I was in college or the Army but my parents bought a used 1965 Mustang (Iacocca idea) for my sister for $1400.    My sister needed it to get back and forth to work.    In '70, she traded it in and bought a Camaro.    :smh:
