Family used to have a simple hor d'ouvre barbecuing or roasting a bologna with an apricot jam glaze that always was a hit at holiday meals.  I never learned the specifics but it was great carving hunks of it and either putting it on matzah or a cracker or just eating it by itself.

Is there good sushi in the area that isn't crazy expensive? Sushi Taro is good, but pricey and hard to get into, and I hear Nazakawa is amazing (if not astronomically expensive), but I'll likely never set foot in there. I imagine there are some places in the burbs. Suggestions?

Passion Fin is really good, locations in Ashburn and Gainesville.   What part of the region are you in?  If NoVa, hop onto the "Northern Virginia Foodies" group on Facebook and search the archives.

Katana in Hayfield is good, but whether or not it’s worth the drive from DC probably depends on how much you want to avoid downtown prices

It’s a buffet but Sushi On at the Fair Oaks mall has good sushi.

Are there any sushi joints around town with the little boats delivering sushi to tables?  That's high foodie geekery in places like Vancouver and Seattle.

Every year I try to fast one day for Ramadan. Sort of a solidarity thing with my Muslim Friends. This year, my friend sent me home with a spread to break the fast. It was ridiculous. Multiple flavors of samosa. Fried Paneer, homemade hummus, Haleem and Chicken Biryani. It was so delicious. I called he to tell her how good it was, and she said “that was just to break the fast, what did you eat for dinner?”

Made a salted Tahini chocolate chip cookie recipe. Replaced some of the butter with tahini. Added a bit of nutty flavor. It’s amazing. I don’t think I’m going to make another batch of regular chocolate chip cookies again. These are honestly that good.

Ray's the Steaks closing on June 15

https://www.washingtonian.com/2019/06/03/rays-the-steaks-is-closing-in-arlington-after-17-years/
I knew some waiters and waitresses who worked there but never made it over.  Tips were good as of a couple of years ago.  Maybe as he says BLT Prime did him in, but I'd think that would have more impacted downtown.  I don't think locals go to BLT Prime.

I think he was being tongue-in-cheek when he said that.
