I agree.  With off-days built in early and the fact everyone is fresh anyway...MAYBE he starts a single token game?  Otherwise, he's probably about the last option as a pinch hitter and could pinch run or be a late game defensive sub.  Just not a lot of work to be done that makes it worth going out to get somebody else.  In a few weeks we should not only have MAT back, but we'll have Howie as a corner OF option.

Well Harper and Trout are friends...Harper was recruiting Trout to come to Philly and take that same kind of money.  I think Harper and his 330 million are feeling okay about it.

He knew that his "record breaking" contract would eventually be broken (as all "records" are) but I'm sure he wasn't expecting it to happen in less than three weeks.

As first reported by Passan, Mike Trout and the Angels have agreed to a 12-year deal worth $430 million, with Bill Shaikan reporting the deal will come in at $426.5 million. Because Trout was already owed $66.5 million over the next two seasons, the contract is functionally a 10-year extension worth $360 million. Trout is essentially accepting something similar to the Harper/Machado deals two years in advance. This is not the first time Trout has made this choice, which is very much a personal decision, but it is one that has cost himself potentially hundreds of millions of dollars.

I think hes saying in comparison and accounting for the standard inflation and market increase.

Effectively, if Harper or Machado were to have been born two years later, thus hitting free agency two years from now, that contract is similar to what they would have got.

IOW, it sounds like a huge number, but in reality is a moderately small bump up from Machado and Harper.

I really though 2012 was gonna be the year, and with each passing year, I've become less and less optimistic.  This group has changed all that...I like the team that Rizzo has built...and I haven't said that very often.

The Trout contract blows the Harper contract out of the water.  If Harper were to get 2 years at $33mm now, what would his 10-year value be in 2021? Nowhere near $360mm.

Didn’t they basically give him more what the Dodgers offered Bryce (4/$165), THEN what the Rockies gave Arenado (8/$260) for a total of 12/$425?

I mean, it’s ridiculous to say it’s comparable to what the other guys got.

For a minor league contract, I’d have brought back Gio. He’s not so great as a #3, but he’d be a good #5. And he’ll give you innings when we have a starter who always ends up on the DL.
