I, was wondering the same thing(?) as the other team I follow are the Blue Jays, I certainly don't think he's worth much of anything in the American league, but, in the National?

doubt it even takes that much. i say a low level arm like Sterling Sharp or Brigham Hill, Jefry Rodriguez and Daniel Johnson.

we trade Jefry, and watch some team turn him into Dellin Betances. But yes, he's tradeable.

Rodriguez needs to become a reliever. He just doesn't have enough to get through a lineup more than once.

This is another reason I really dont like like this move. We have several candidates for middle relief in Rodriguez, William's, and Fedde. I would have rather seen this move for Sonny Gray

If they're openly talking about getting rid of Gray after this season, he's gotta be a non-tender candidate. He should cost next to nothing.

Eaton is a value contract but I think the raw dollars are still too much for those teams unless they figure to flip him again .

Chris Taylor was that guy last year. Dodgers have cornered the market.

Jayson Werth was that guy once upon a time with the Phillies. Also Shane Victorino. Both Ruke 5 pick ups. It happens.

We got a couple of years out of Jesus Flores on Rule 5. Mike Morse was also a "where did that come from" guy who could not play in Seattle.

Morse is definitely a great answer to my question. We got Morse in a lopsided trade (as it turned out); Muncy was signed by LA to a minor league contract and gave them 20 HR in his first 183 ABs in the majors in 2017; followed by 35 HRs this season.

I wonder if baseball front offices' spent as much time trying to identify these types of guys as they do "regular" prospects, the payoff would be well worth it.

Some folks (like Blue911) think guys who are pure hitters and not great athletes tend to be undervalued by scouts. Think Rhys Hoskins.

No. I believe he graded out as the worst outfielder in MLB defensively. Or close to it.

Great athletes don't necessarily make great defenders. Frank Howard would have to be seen as a great athlete because he was an All-American college basketball player (drafted by Phila in the NBA) in addition to still being seen as one of the greatest sluggers in MLB history. And, he also likely could have been a great football player as well at Ohio State! Yet, he really had no position in baseball that he could play at more than a very average level.

Times change to. He likely wouldn’t have been drafted by the NBA now.

Athleticism usually seems to imply speed and jumping ability nowadays. Would you consider Tony Romo a great athlete because he is an excellent golfer. Maybe.

If we're talking relative to other MLB players, but even then, IDK. You don't make it to this level these days without being an incredible athlete. There might be an exception or two, but Hoskins wouldn't be it, IMO.

Sonny Gray is an awesome buy low candidate, and the Yankees have already lowered the price by admitting they want to move him. His stuff was as good as always last year, he just had a inflated ERA at Yankee Stadium thanks to a barrage of homers. Away from Yankee Stadium he was still very good. I'm sure there will be plenty of suitors for his services, but I'd love to add him to the rotation. I'm not sure what trade chips we have that would interest the Yankees.

We could pick up A.J. Cole in FA and then trade him to the yanks
