Users will no longer be able to edit their own posts indefinitely.  I have settled on a 48-hour window for now.  Please note that this includes changing topic titles if you are the topic creator.

I have temporarily rescinded this change.

Will Mods be able to change titles and merge threads?

I reversed it for now anyway, but it doesn't impact moderator powers  :judge:

To all of WNFF and all the ships at see -

With the Nats in the World Series, we can expect the good (wonderful old members returning to post!), the bad (scores to settle), and the ugly, by which I mean scams. Hogie was great at flagging someone pushing overpriced baby shark plushies on e-bay in the now-closed baby shark thread.  The Mods don't always think quick enough, so if you spot something suspicious, report it or do what Hogie did.

Pardon me, but I have to get back to the kind Nigerian Prince who left me an email about a sum he needs deposited in the US.

Edited some posts.  Please stop insulting people without cause.  Negativity "call-outs" are borderline, but straight up name-calling is going to garner a formal warning next time.

Hi.  New guy here.  I am sorry if this is covered in another part of the board, but how long will my posts need to be approved?  Is this permanent, or a temporary thing, like for the first 30 days or something?  Thanks.

My response in the intro thread:

You shouldn't need further approval.  It's just a protective measure to make sure new posters aren't spammers, scammers, etc.  I have approved all of your posts up to this point.

Awesome. Thanks.  We’ve been trying to reach you regarding your car’s extended warranty.
Kidding.  Understood, and thank you.

That's funny.  For me, I haven't owned a car in 6+ years, but I still get messages like that on my land-line.  It rolls straight into my messages without ringing, and usually they start mid-message with a woman saying, "Fantastic!"

I keep it (actually it's FIOS) to give a phone number when I sign up for stuff.  I try to only use my cell for folks who I actually want to hear from.

How else does one use their dial-up modem?

One phracks an audio signal with a switch box tone producer that can create standard DTMF, quarter insert tones, and an audio based modem?  Granted, you'd need a pay phone for that. The other option if you do have a pay phone in an out of the way place is to look for a square box with a screw on lid a few feet down the cables coming from the phone. If you get that lid off, you should have a jack that the linesmen use to test, but is also perfectly compatible with a standard rj11 phone cable to your modem.
