Harper is not worthy. He is a selfish  player who cares not for his low batting average  so long as he hits home runs. The only race he is interested in this season is the one to the bank full.of what is to him already just monopoly  money.

I’m not certain I think he deserves it, but the man has an OPS of .919. He’s getting on base. Batting average is just one number that we use to evaluate offensive performance. If you use literally an other one (HR, RBI, OPS, wRC+, OBP) he’s among the best in the league. His BA is low because he rarely gets anything to hit. Look at his ABs. The only thing he gets that aren’t junk are mistakes. And he crushes mistakes.

And if you had a payday coming that was worth hundreds of millions, you wouldn’t have that on your mind when you went to work? Come on.

I don’t know if the Nats should sign Harper.  I’m not sure he belongs on the All Star team. But some of these takes about him are insane.

I think OPS is what you should look at. Some people look at batting average, others look at on base, and some look at homeruns.  OPS is the only stat that combines all three.   Harper is second among outfielders.  That should qualify him.

To elaborate, if you walk (let's say it's your first at bat of the season) your OPS is 1.000.  A single, it's 2.000. A homerun, 5.000.  I like those proportions, and that's why I like OPS.

I got if from my Russian handler  ....  "How are you?" more or less.   I would have used N2P's given name but I don't want to blow his cover.

I do question my own sanity.
If I were already making 21 million dollars and knew regardless  of the year I was having I was going to at least make that amount for years to come at the worst. My priorities may be elsewhere  but that is me.
I appreciate  the stat savy among us but when I see him throw home  with no result of certinty than allowing a runner to advance to scoring position.
I curse the fates

All-Star Balloting opens today. You can vote 5 times a day total of 35 times. Make sure to uncheck the boxes so you don’t get a bunch of Spam from Camping World.

https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot

Nats on the ballot

1B Ryan Zimmerman
2B Daniel Murphy
3B Anthony Rendon
SS Trea Turner
C Matt Wieters
OF Matt Adams
OF Bryce Harper
OF Michael A. Taylor

Vote Early, Vote Often

My predictions are that Turner and Harper will Be votes starters and Max will be the starting pitcher.
I voted Murphy

Scherzer and Doolittle are deserving. Harper will get in because of the name and he hits homers. Can't wait to see him at the HR Derby.

From Nationals.com:  The first 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star voting standings were released today and Bryce Harper leads all NL Outfielders in votes. Matt Adams is also among the OF leaders, while Trea Turner is 4th among NL Shortstops.

LOL...Adams is 14th...I guess the Nats consider that one of the leaders...

With 15 teams, I consider any top 15 a "leader". But it's a thin margin.

If you had 15 teams in a horserace, I wouldn't call a horse in 14th place a leader...

If you call the leaders anyone in the top 5 at their position, which is what MLB does in their press release then being 14th among all outfielders makes you one.

3 outfielders per team. He's the 14th horse in a 45 horse race. That's not awful.

Rendon is actually pretty average so far. I expect him to turn it on and have a couple quietly ridiculous months, but it has not happened yet.

There are some who believe that All Star-consideration should include the second half of last year. I don't necessarily think so, but if you do believe this, then Rendon deserves consideration.

The Braves fans are stuffing the ballot box.  Right now it looks like the Braves will have 3 starters on the NL All Star squad (Freeman, Albers, and Markakis).  Freeman is the top vote getter overall, Markakis leads among OF'rs.

Braves continue to stuff the box. Freeman and Markakis and Albues still lead. Harper drops to third outfielder but still is well ahead of Blackman. Turner in 5th but way behind Crawford.

You guys keep saying "stuffing" like somehow it's fraudulant.

Markakis is 3rd in WAR among NL OFers.
Albies is second amongst 2b
Freeman is the best first baseman in baseball

I say stuff because Kurt Suzuki is third among catchers, Johnan Carmago is third among 3rd Baseman, Ronald Acuna and Ender Inciarte are 5th and 6th among outfielders and Dansby Swanson is second among shortstops.

Rendon's heating up and is now hitting in the .290s. Maybe he finally gets in.

Harper starting. Max and Doolittle on the pitching staff. Trevor Story picked over Turner which is dumb.

What stats did Turner have that were better?

Did one do better in fan voting?
