Yeah, he'd love it there. Involved in every play. And you wouldn't have to worry about him hitting the cutoff.

You could move Harper to first base though.

Goodwin began the season in AAA...doesn't that mean he has options left?

Goodwin did not start the season in the minors.

Robles started the season at Syracuse, and when he comes off the minor league DL, that's where he will remain.  The Nats are not concerned with stunting his growth because they want him to play every day, with Harper, Taylor and Eaton, that was not going to happen in Washington.  With that recent history, the Nats will have no problem dropping Soto to the minors if - and it's a big if - everyone currently on the DL starts coming back in a couple of weeks.  Taylor isn't going anywhere, as his defense is too good and he's starting to hit decently.  No one is going to get DFA'ed to keep a spot for Soto.  Not Taylor, not Goodwin, who is out of options.  They've had too many injuries to risk slipping either of them through waivers as they will absolutely be claimed by another team.

Guys with options get moved down all the time regardless of performance.  It's a numbers game.

Severino, Soto, and Difo are the only guys on our 25-man who still have minor league options.

Rotowire had some bad info on their Goodwin homepage...

Of the three, I would most expect it to be Difo down once Murphy returns. Also, Kieboom is out of options?

Who becomes the backup infielder if you send Difo down?

Kieboom has 2 option years left.  He used up one option year in 2016, then was DFAed and removed from the 40-man before the 2017 season and spent the whole year on a minor-league contract.

Small sample size so far, but I did not expect Soto to do this well. He will cool off, but if he even keeps his OPS above .800 by the end of this season then I think it is safe to say we had a game changing hitter slip through our system and we forgot to notice him thanks to Robles.

Nationals had some good, young bats for the long term with Robles, Turner, and Rendon ( ). But Soto may be the one guy in the system who looks like he could fit at first base. We haven't had a power prospect in the system since Matt Skole broke his leg.
And with I say fit at first, I mean his bat, not his defense.

But I think he will bulk up out of the corner and into first base.

Not true, he had two plate appearances in Cincinnati on opening day.

Whoever is playing second the days Difo isn't.  At this point the DL has hit things so hard, I honestly don't know who the backups are for the infield atm.  Stevenson maybe?

Sanchez has options left, doesn't he?  He'll be the one to go.

Difo switch hits, plays multiple positions, and batted .285 with .810 OPS in May. I'd be really, really surprised if they sent him down.

Sanchez is currently the infield backup. I can’t imagine he stays up over Difo. This is why Howie’s injury was so big. Reynolds can play third, but he’s not that good.

Yeah, I had forgotten Sanchez was even still here. I think dcpatti and Bluestreak, you're both correct that he's the guy who goes down and Difo returns to backup role for the infield.

Any chance he's an all-star this year?  Now batting .333 with a .950 OPS

There is literally ZERO chance Difo gets sent down. Without him we aren't even close to 9 games over .500

He has been an unsung hero for us this year.

Well, since Murphy probably isn't coming back, it's a moot point.

Stevenson is an outfielder.
