Peaking through the clouds - the SunShine Squad reemerges
« on: April 21, 2018, 09:30:57 am »
With Ryan Zimmerman going 8 for 29 in his last 7 games, and with MAT having a nice 6 game stretch (.300 average, .391 OBP), I'm feeling like life on the road is good for the Nats and that this is more the end of the beginning than the beginning of the end.

One real surprise for me is that the Severino / Wieters combo is showing some signs of not being a drag offensively.  While Wieters's average is low, his .393 OBP / .500 SLG shocks the heck out of me.  Severino, on the other hand, is showing his offense is not all BABIP driven, with a .286 average and a .405 OBP.  I don't think anyone really expected our two prime catchers to have OPS's of .893 and .748.  In fairness, the "its early" stuff applies here, too, with only about 70 or so plates appearances between the two, but so far the duo is not acting like a yawning hole.

So you can feel the sunshine, what if I said, "he's showing he can take a walk, and hasn't been a K machine?"

Severino is such a treat. Not only is he showing that he’s a capable big league catcher, he brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm that gives everyone a lift. I love seeing these guys grow from baby PNats to big boy ball players.

Zimm's season is begining to mirror last season except he had his spring training, where he could not hit,in April this year instead of March as was the case last season.

BTW sunshine sux

This is the SSS thread. Take negativity elsewhere.

The first part was sunshine in the sense of explaining why Zimm was "reemerging"

The second part merely tongue in cheek

But in honor of this thread

your not telling him to stick to where the sun don't shine?  I mean, that's not very nice.

My Sunshine Squad take: It is a long season and I am sure in our playoff years there was a 25 game stretch where we had a losing record.

Reality Take: :panic:

Goes without saying.

Also, you're taking my comment, which ended with a smile, way too seriously.

The sunshine might be peaking through the clouds, but it's being eclipsed by the thick, black, toxic smoke of a tire dump fire.

No better than a 50% chance. But I'm okay with that. No reason for angst when there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

That's sunshine right there.

Let's hope you're right.

I thought that was a relatively positive post, as much as I can muster anyhow.  I acknowledged the sunshine peaking through the clouds, didn't I?

One silver lining is that with all the losses Doolittle should be rested.

Trea Turner hitting over .500 these past five games.

I am feeling vindicated for not selling my beachfront property on Trea Island.

If the Nats turn this season around it will be reliant on Trea Turner and Anthony Rendon.
