If you're gonna play baseball in the winter jacket and gloves weather of March and November, in the predictably rainy Spring, and blast furnace Summer heat and humidity, shouldn't retractable roof stadiums be a requirement for all new construction?

Injuries are part of the game.  Maybe one or two guys getting struck by lightning every season would make it interesting.  This league needs to sack up.

Sounds like the crew timed out, and I’m assuming it was after the charter bus had left and they couldn’t get another bus to take them anywhere. That sucks. I’m surprised Delta didn’t have a reserve crew called up for a high profit charter like that.

I feel like for enough money you could scrounge up a crew or a bus, but I suppose not...

The latest from weather.com:

Tonight (Dodgers) - 90% (riain)
Saturday (Dodgers) - 100% (AM thunderstorms)
Sunday (Dodgers) - 80% (thunderstorms) - not a good new development
Monday (Padres) - 20% (mostly cloudy)
Tuesday (Padres) - 20% (cloudy)
Wednesday (Padres) - 20% (partly cloudy)

I also looked at the hour-by-hour forecast and while precip chances for tonight still range from 60-80% during normal match times, the prediction for most of this period is 'light rain' so maybe there's an outside chance of getting tonight's fixture in. Also, from about 15.00 Saturday the precip chance dips to 40% and lower for the rest of the evening so Saturday's match should be on. At least the Padres series appears safe....

Improving a bit now for Saturday - maxima of 20% chance of precip from 17.00 that day on into the wee hours. That fixture at least is starting to look solid (unless the outfield is still waterlogged beyond repair after all these days of rain).

Well, I bought my tickets for tonight's game last week. Coming from Richmond. What is the best source to check for game postponement updates? Thanks!

She seems to be the best and most timely source for consolidating updates.

Different animal but it's so rainy/wet in E. Loudoun that the public golf course is closed.

Schools are closed or letting out early here in the Richmond area.

Word on Twitter is that ballpark employees are being told the game is cancelled but the announcement is pending an agreement on when to reschedule. My guess is that the Nats are resisting a single admission DH.

They're not going to have a choice, MLB will step in.  There is nowhere on the calendar to reschedule and MLB will insist that they do everything possible to get all three games in. If tonight's game cannot be played, I think they're going to have  to play a doubleheader starting late afternoon tomorrow (meaning single-admission), because that's the best chance of getting two games in, and they don't want to have to do a doubleheader Sunday.

June 4 is open for both teams and the Dodgers will be in Pitt on June 5th. MLB makes the final decision but that decision is based on input from both teams, no one else cares.

They might object to travelling from Colorado to DC and DC to Pittsburgh consecutive nights. Particularly if it's a doubleheader in DC.

My only real experience with a domed stadium was the Astrodome back in the early/mid-eighties.

It was the most sterile, uninviting environment I could imagine.  A dome in DC would likely keep me away more than heat, cold or rain.

I did not say "dome." I referenced a retractable roof -- open when the weather is OK, closed only in extreme conditions. Big difference. I saw games in the old Kingdome in Seattle. As you said about the Astrodome, it was very DARK and STERILE>

Yes, there is a big difference.  And there is a big difference in cost.  In fact most cities (if the city is paying) would consider a retractable roof to be prohibitively expensive.

Definitely the Dodgers would object, they'd rather do a single admission DH tomorrow and get the series over with on Sunday. The Nats will not want to lost the gate for that game so they'll be pushing hard for 6/4. The MLB office will need to make a decision that will piss off one of the two ownership groups.

If there was no conflict the cancellation would have been announced hours ago.

Tomorrow's weather doesn't look promising for a double header, regardless of how admission works.

Rain ending after 2PM, should be no problem if they have single admission starting at 4 PM.

I thought the Lerners were among the sport's wealthiest owners. Was I misinformed on that? How did Arizona, Miami, Toronto, Houston, Milwaukee and Seattle finance theirs? That's 6 teams already with retractable roof facilities.

Another possible advantage of a retractable roof would be not wearing out your players (especially your pitching staff) in a stretch of 98 degree/80 pct DC humidity weeks in the middle of the 162 game slog. Staff might be much fresher going into playoffs.

They didn't get rich by buying expensive roofs!

Weather.com is showing a roughly 50% chance of rain for the hours between 7-10pm, and then jumping up to 85% at 10.  Seems to me like they'll try to get the game in tonight.

In other words, not only cheap but shortsighted to boot!

BTW, for you youngsters, there was a time when there used to be a doubleheader pretty much every Sunday afternoon. They did not have to clarify the term with "single admission" as there was no other type!
