Maybe Emerson, the A's pitching coach, made the difference for him??

Maybe the Yanks pitching coach. Maybe the Pirates pitching coach.

Maybe the problem is with the Nationals

By process of elimination, I'd say yes.  Either that or Justin Miller.  Awesome times.

I would think Madsen would be.  He's pitched quite well for a couple weeks now.

Madson has said that he would prefer not to close...

Of course. I'm sure Doolittle and Herrera would have prefered not to get hurt, too.

Hopefully he won't throw his glove if he's brought in.

Not sure I see even a glimmer of a correlation there...

Madson is a vet. He'll close if he has too.

Ideally, Holland gets some confidence and returns to form, and he becomes the closer. Ideally Doolittle and Herrera come back and we end up with the best bullpen in baseball for the playoffs.

I can't tell whether or not that's sarcasm.

I wonder if Rizzo is looking into Sergio Romo or Tyler Clippard today.  There are lots of good relievers who should be available now.

Yea. We don't see enough home runs against the Nationals. Need to pump up those numbers.

Yeah, but when relievers say they don't want to close it usually means they can't handle the pressure.  So it's probably win-win not to have them close.

I don't think Herrera is around next season.

Seriously, every time I think I've read the dumbest crap ever on this board, someone has to go and one-up it.

We lost with those guys did we not?

Why not keep all our young prospects and just lose a little more?

Does it really matter at the end of the day?

I was talking about "ideally" in which this team magically makes the playoffs.

Things often don't go according to plan. There are and will be times where you have to step into non-preferred roles and/or activities.

He should have been looking for another arm at the deadline. I get he couldn't foresee the Kelley situation or Herrera injury, but in deciding to trade off Kintzler plus Kelley being injury prone anyway, Madson turning 38 this month, and the "we're all-in" declaration from Mike and Mark, it would have been prudent. Cheap relievers are always available.

At this point, I'd rather have Doolittle back than Strasburg.

The aggravating thing is, by September this bullpen could be very good, but it would be too late.  Solis, Grace, Miller, Madson and Suero all have done their jobs for the most part in recent weeks.  Glover and Holland are wild cards.  And there's the possibility that Ross could be available.
