Can someone please tell me why people were even remotely interested in Wander Suero? He doesn't have swing and miss stuff and he walks a crap ton of batters.

Seems a little harsh for a guy who has a zero ERA.  I'm willing to give him a few more innings, especially considering the alternatives.  He's obviously not god's gift to pitching, but he's not Gott's gift to pitching either.

Suero has some ridiculous movement on some of his pitches, and he has a ton of confidence.   He's only pitched 4 innings in the majors and started the season on the DL so I'm willing to give him more time to see if he can get into a groove.

He and Gott have remarkably similar peripherals. Unless someone can specifically point to something he does that induces a ton of weak contact, I think his ERA is simply luck at this point.

Gott is a sinkerballer and Suero throws cutters?

Are cutters still regarded as better than sinkers? My understanding is that a sinker *should* induce better groundball contact, but can still end up being hard hit, whereas cutters will likely miss the sweet spot of the bat and may not end up as groundballs, but are less likely to be hit hard.

He and Gott were on the same team for much of last year, and the numbers aren't really that close except for the K/BB ratio, and even there Suero has the advantage:

Suero: 42.1 innings, 33 hits, 8 ER, 14 BB, 42K (1.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 7 H/9, 3.0 K/BB)
Gott: 37.1 innings, 39 hits, 16 ER, 13 BB, 35 K (3.86 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 9.4 H/9, 2.69 K/BB)

I haven't seen enough of either to say it confidently, but it looks to me that Suero's fastball moves a lot more than Gott's - which looks too straight.  I'm concerned that he doesn't really have an out pitch, though.  It's a bit early to tell, so we'll see.

Suero was filthy disgusting in spring training. We haven't really seen that same breaking ball in the majors yet. He's basically just throwing the cutter 85% of the time.

It helps when you're pitching against guys who will be in Double A next week.

To me, a pitch that moves vertically is better than a pitch that moves horizontally.

Inconvenient truth......AL Bore

The bullpen is going to be bad all season.
Solis is horrible as is Got but they are the best we have and Kinsler has lost it or been ruined.

The law firm over performed ( Ray D) last year and the remainder sucks. Rizzo better perform his magic and not wait until July as the Barves and Phillies are much improved.

Right now for Harper....not much.......unless a team is in need of an indifferent strike out specialist

So apparently Ryan Madsen will be back this weekend and Matt Grace won't be far behind. So who gets sent down?

Sean Doolittle
Brandon Kintzler
Sammy Solis
Shawn Kelly
Trevor Gott
Justin Miller
Tim Collins
Wander Suero

Justin Miller and Tim Collins have pitched well so far but one will have to be sent down. Suero is probably the other one. Maybe keep both Miller and Collins up and send Gott and Suero down?

It seems we may finally have our bullpen rounding into shape. They have all pitched well lately.

Since Gott and Suero have options left, they'll almost surely be the first ones down; you can always recall them if someone else is injured or really stinks. Otherwise, someone would have to be DFA'ed, and there isn't anyone bad enough currently to be a real candidate for DFA.  The jury is still out on Shawn Kelley but the Nats are going to give him every possible chance.

Unless they DFA Kelley, I think it's Gott and Suero that get moved down.

Brandon Kintzler is terrible. At this point he should be the 1st guy to go once we need to lower our BP numbers.

That is all
