Kintzler was unlucky. Pitched well last night.
He's a pitch to contact pitcher who is dependent on his fly balls staying in the ballpark, not walking guys, and forcing you to hit several bleeders through the infield to score.  With that profile, there will be days when the balls do go out, he walks a guy, or the bleeders do go through. Like last night.

When it rains, it pours.

Bullpen threw 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Roark had a bad inning. There are positives to be seen in the last few games.

Roark was not consistent yesterday.  He had some nice flashes but totally crap the bed in the 3rd...

He usually sucks earlier in the game - 1st or 2nd inning - so maybe he is getting over that...

IIRC didn't Roark have the same problem last year and that he couldn't finish off the batter after getting ahead in the count?

Sounds right...I know he would always to seem to have a rocky 1st or 2nd inning.  Gio generally waited until the 4th...  ;)

He started nibbling, and I know I have been banging on and on about the Wieters effect or lack thereof, but this is it right here. Wieters makes the pitchers attack the zone and really pushes them not to nibble. Some of them learned their lessons better than others, I guess.  Same with Gio throwing that high fastball-- Gio used to think he's goddamned Picasso, trying to paint corners like master, till Wieters pushed him into throwing that high strike.

This game was not on the bullpen. It was on the offense.  Plus the Nats were never ahead so the bullpen didn’t even technically blow the game.

Dont you get it, Nats fans seem to think if the bullpen gives up anything they should be cut. Why blame the offense you cant get a hit with a runner in scoring position ever.

This. I think he had that effect on Strasburg as well. Attack the guys and let them get themselves out.

This is the same fanbase wherein some people managed to blame Scherzer for losing game 3 last year even though he went 6-1/3 and gave up 1 run while the offense only produced 1 run in 9 innings.

Some people have a thing for irrationally blaming the pitching even when the offense sucks.

Remember how SF expected that if you got shut out, a real ace would hold the opposition to -1?

Storen and Papelbon are available.  Maybe having them both on the same roster would be catching lightning in a bottle.

Well, I have mentioned it in other threads but I believe losing Maddux was our worst off-season move. I don't believe that Rizzo emphasized enough to him to stick around and even if he wasn't a "serious" contender for the manaqers job. He should have been told we want you back. Instead they bring back Hendley for the second time with a managerial change.

What does Hendley bring to the table besides getting our own players gunned down?  Why not just save the money and install a street light behind 3rd base that is permanently on green.  That would be a one-time cost of what, 25 grand?  Seriously, has he ever held a runner?  What else does a 3rd base coach do?

That rant was slightly off topic, but still a valid rant IMO.

3rd base coaches usually have other jobs on the team. henley is also the outfield instructor.

I Was completely ok with Dusty coming back. I was disappointed he didn't. But when I heard Mike wasn't, I was like oh crap.

Cards ERA is over 4. Maddux was overrated.
