three games at the great american bandbox and we're ready to pass a season-long judgement on the bullpen?  Seriously?

When has a small sample size ever kept this board from passing judgement?

We wouldn't have a forum at all if we couldn't draw inadequately supported inferences from scant data and blow things out of proportion, could we?

We’d basically be fangraphs.  :)

I remember everyone saying Gott was something special when we acquired him. Seems to not be the case.

Time to bring Fedde up, send Cole to the BP.

Gott is a two pitch bum with a BP fastball and a curveball he can’t control. Send him to the glue factory.

Don't almost all relief pitchers only rely on two pitches?

Agree he is a bum.

Most of them use two pitches mostly, but have a third that they at least toss occasionally to make hitters think.  Gott requires no thought, as he can't get anything over that's not a fastball.

Sure, some can even make a career out of a single pitch if it’s a great sinker (Huston Street) or an electric fastball (Goose Gossage) or a bat destroying cutter (Mo). Gott has one mediocre pitch (fastball) and another (curveball) that he can’t locate in the strike zone to save his life. He should be outright released but we all know that’s not going to happen.

If Gott is up, it’s safe to assume the minors are utterly devoid of viable options.

This is the problem. I don't follow the minors or staff enough to know--but have we shaken up scouting/player development for pitchers anytime in the recent past? If not--why wouldn't we? We are drafting crap and not developing guys we have in the system.

Last year the late inning guys were giving it away. This year the middle. It's  like trying to plug a hole in a duke with your finger. Stop the leaking one place and out pops another leak

A mystery. The only answer I can come up with is

Because Benoit has Willie Harris's photo album.

I assume they figured they'd have Koda and Kelley back healthy and didn't need him.

With Suero for backup, even. Suero injured, Koda injured, at least Kelley has looked decent. Not amazing but decent. Suero has filthy stuff and the right attitude and he’s been itching to get promoted. It sucks that he got injured.

They probably counted on Seth Romero too.

It's time for Kintzler to get a mystery injury. The dude is f'n terrible.

Why do proven guys come in here and get shelled? Just when it seems we have a legit BP proven guys fall on their faces. Kelly,  Blanton and now Kintzler.

Oblique and as far as I know, he's not started throwing yet, so we won't see him till summer at best.

I don't think Kintzler looked bad last night, he busted guys inside and they wristed soft liners just beyond the infield.  Those weren't bad pitches.  Wasn't one even a broken bat?

Agreed that he hasn't been good all year but I think he was more unlucky than bad last night.

And Kelley has been outstanding, he is looking like the 7th inning guy now.

Cespedes’ single was a broken bat bloop.
