And, he brought a corned beef sandwich into space:

Young was the first of his group to fly in space: He and Mercury astronaut Gus Grissom made the first manned Gemini mission in 1965. Unknown to NASA, Young smuggled a corned beef sandwich on board, given to him by Mercury astronaut Wally Schirra. When it came time to test NASA's official space food, Young handed Grissom the sandwich as a joke.

The ensuing scandal over that corned beef on rye — two silly minutes of an otherwise triumphant five-hour flight — always amazed Young. Sandwiches already had flown in space, Young said in his book, but NASA brass and Congress considered this one a multimillion-dollar embarrassment and outlawed corned beef sandwiches in space forever after.

Whoa Nelly. Keith Jackson. He was, for me, the voice of college football in my youth. He will be missed. You knew your game was big if he was calling it.

Did he call any Michigan games when they weren't playin' OSU?        :poke:     I was a big fan of him and Wilkinson.

He called the Michigan Colorado Hail Mary.  I hated that game though.

Dolores O’Riorden. And it’s beyond sad. That music made up a decent chunk of my younger memories.

No details yet beyond it was sudden.  She had an incredibly beautiful voice.

Cancer.  I really did not follow the C's until the Heinsohn-coached teams with Jo Jo, Hondo, Cowens, etc...

Jo Jo was one of Red's brilliant moves.  When he was coming out, it was assumed he was going into the Army because I think he had been ROTC or something, so most teams passed on him in the draft.  Red signed him, and somehow got his required duty to be around Boston so he could play.  His move was to not take it to the basket on a break but rather hit a pull up jumper.

I used to park Red's car (2-seater Mercedes with DC plates "CELTS") at Woodmont CC.  Reeked of cigar but he was a good tipper and much admired by us gentile car parkers.

Petty was an accidental over dose:

https://www.aol.com/article/entertainment/2018/01/19/tom-petty-died-of-accidental-overdose-family-says/23338522/

From another article I saw:

Quote
Legendary singer-songwriter Tom Petty died from "an accidental drug overdose" due to taking several medications, his family has said in a statement.

"Our family sat together this morning with the Medical Examiner – Coroner’s office and we were informed of their final analysis that Tom Petty passed away due to an accidental drug overdose as a result of taking a variety of medications," the family wrote in a Facebook post Friday.

The family writes in the post that Petty had been suffering from pain emphysema, knee problems and a badly fractured hip, which he had been recuperating from while still on tour. On the day he died, his hip had become a "full on break," the family says. "It is our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his over use of medication," they write.

Read that as well in the WTOP story.    Folks gotta pay attention to the medications they take and possible negative interactions with other medications.    They don't all go together well.

Speaking of drugs this one is just unbelievable to me. I guess some have problems giving up the rush of competition.
