Honestly, I did not think a lot about her until '84 when she made some comment about Ferraro (she's a word that rhymes with which), and then I doubled down on the dislike when she wore a flag scarf at the '88 convention (I hate when the flag is used in clothing and when it is used for partisan purposes like '88). I say those things because I think she's been one of the most admirable, honest, balanced, caring, sensible figures in American culture over the past 30+ years. There's a certain decency about Poppy and Barbara, especially away from the campaign trail, that makes them incredible role models. To me, they epitomize the generation that served in the war and then built the country that we are p'ng away.
