The reaction on Twitter last night when it was announced he was on the block surprised me given how negative it was, but at the same time really didn't. I think for years now a segment of the fan base has fallen in love with certain players and not concerned themselves much with the team trying to win a World Series. He's having a terrible season, has been selfish at the plate, hasn't hustled, has pouted, has made several unprofessional comments, and has had a terrible attitude all season. But hey, he's Bryce and he's a superstar, so "DON'T DARE TRADE HIM!!!"

What is there that's hard to get? He looks like he's not throwing the ball as well as before. His throws have less on them, and they're even less accurate than they used to be. (For what it's worth, the metrics seem to agree.)

He throws it as hard has ever has and he was never accurate to begin with. Just eyeing it. I would love to see some metrics. I just don't understand how a 25 year old outfielder's arm can get weaker.

Uh don't look now, but he's heating up: Harper since the ASB: . 286 / .417 / .536 (not counting tonight's 2/4, 2 2B night), 2HR, 15Ks, 6BBs in 36 PAs.

Eaton, Soto and Harper would start with Taylor as the 4th guy. Pretty much the way it is now.

I still think they should move Harper to 1B (if he stays). He'd love being in on every play, and he's athletic enough to do it. Taylor can start the season in CF and start to share time when Robles comes up for good.

If anyone moves to first, it's Soto. But the Learners aren't going to suck up Zim's contract and pay Bryce 400+ million to play first.

Are you kidding? Zim's arm is a liability at first.

Soto should spend the offseason practicing playing LF and first base. That way, next season, when Zim goes to the DL, they can slide Soto to first base, put Eaton in LF, and call up Robles to play RF.

Are you kidding me? I can't speak for the Lerners, but I don't think ANYONE in baseball understands sunk costs....it's why we never see highly paid, underperforming, veterans benched when there are clearly better options available.

Yep. If the Learners understood sunk cost, Brian Goodwin would have started in LF in the playoffs last year.

You have a point.

Although I think that, sometimes, managers expect that highly paid player to perform better under pressure, and to revert to the numbers on the back of their baseball card.

Robles makes Eaton expendable. Taylor / Stevenson can be 4th and 5th OFs, or we get a bat-first corner OF/1B veteran as the 5th OF.

Robles has to show he can hit to make Eaton expendable.
