Especially the way the owners clamped down on spending on big money free agents last year.
Duh look how much they been spending to resign key guys and max a while back.

I guess if we offer Harper for Realmuto, the Marlins say no.

I would. That is a dumb trade for them, even if he was batting .400

Bryce Harper is a better version of Ian Desmond.

Devastating contract year on the eve of a massive contract.

Harper now at .211 and falling. Difo now down to .239 in his slump. Severino at .196. No mystery why we have trouble scoring.

"Historically that good?" He's hit over .300 twice in 6, going on 7, years. Hit over 30 HRs exactly once.

Exactly...actually, hit over .275 in just two seasons...

I think he will sign with the Nats for a “hometown discount” with an opt out after two years. I don’t agree with it, but think that’s what will happen.

Lmao what the hell are you smoking?

Bryce is GONE after this year. His ass is chasing money. He doesnt give a crap about bringing a championship to this city. Some stupid team will pay him 40 million a year to disappear in the playoffs.

Nobody’s paying him 40 million for this production.. What I see happeneing is him taking less money, calling it a hometown discount to save face and then having an opt out after 1 or 2 years so he can prove he’s right again. The only team he can do this with and not look bad is the Nats, and the Nats are the only team that would overpay him for that sort of thing because he has the most off-field value to them.  Then he can be a free agent again at 27.

If he picks up his production then sure, he’s gone. But if he keeps hitting like this...

I’m not even hoping for this. But do I see it happening given the relationships between Harper, the Lerners and Boras? Sure...

Davey is going to have to make a decision soon. Bench him or put him on the DL with a broken swing. Still can’t believe he continues to bat him 3rd night after night.

Bryce got hyped up because he didn't have a sophomore slump, take away 2015 and he'd basically be a Matt Adams who walks.

Harper over the last 30 games..189/.278/.400 with 6 HR's in 95 AB's. But wait there is more ! 39 K's.

That 2005 season was amazing.

But Harper right now looks like Adam Dunn with better defense. High OBP with many Ks, lots of power, not much else. Adam Dunn was a valuable hitter who was moved to first about 5 years too late, but Adam Dunn would be a disappointing result for Bryce Harper.

Right now I think most nationals fans would be ecstatic to get 25 year old Adam Dunn performance out of Harper. And honestly it looks like Adam Dunn is exactly who Harper is going to turn out to be, with about .30 points higher average(at best) and 5-10 less HR's, if his slugging is higher its because he can leg out a double off a line drive that Dunn would only get on base with. Bryce was always going to be a ~.275/30 guy, then he had that 2015 season and freaked himself up thinking he could be Barry Bonds.

Well, exactly like Dunn until he leaves the batters box, if thats a better description. But maybe he can put on 50 lbs in the off season, to complete the picture. But I was talking about where I think Bryce will be in the future(if he can figure things out a bit), right now he plays just like Dunn, except worse.

At 24/25 Dunn was getting more doubles than Harper has the last couple seasons. Frustrating thing is that Harper has the ability to be a multi dimensional player but he appears to be so obsessed with power that he has let everything else drop. At this point if Harper can match Dunn's age 25 OPS of 927 his season would be considered a major success.

Except hitting 30 points higher, being far more useful on the base paths, and far better defensively than Dunn ever was.

Holy crap, dude is a .279/.383/.511 career hitter who twice has hit over .300 and is considered one of the most talented people to ever play the game of baseball.

At 25, Dunn was a career .248 hitter who had twice led the league in strikeouts and had one all star appearance, zero rookie of the year awards, and zero MVPs.

Let's think about this: At Harper's absolute worst, he's a .900 OPS bat that's leading the NL in home runs.

I was comparing age 25, comparing up to 25 is different.

You said 24/25

Let's compare age 24 seasons. Harper was hitting .319/.413/.595

Enough with the bullcrap people. Yes, he's slumping, and it's bad. Harper's lowest lows are awful and he probably gets stuck in them for a lot longer than most players due to a complicated swing and mental fortitude. But he's shown that he's one of the greatest ever to play this game, talent wise. You're a moron if you think that Adam Dunn and Bryce Harper are comparable in any way.

Right, I did include 24. So I amend that, at age 25 Dunn was the better player. Will Harper be better from 26-35 is the $400 million question. I wouldn't bet on it.

I’m sure Harper will thrive with the supportive New York media boosting his confidence when he slumps and the understanding home crowds that surely wouldn’t boo the best player in the game for early season strikeouts
