you need to be on Wi-Fi, and plugged in IIRC

WiFi is all I’ve got. When we finished our 2 year contract a year or so ago on the iPad I canceled the data plan for it. But I’ll plug it in to see what happens.

You should be able to download without being plugged in, you just can’t install the update if not plugged in/high enough battery. That’s odd that the update isn’t showing

Siri says January, 2010...

I know that's not what you meant...   :D

It’s an iPad mini 3. I’ve got a battery showing 90% and I plugged it in with no luck.

looks like you've been obsoleted, the Mini 3 isn't on the iOS 13 device list:

Relegated to the dustbin. Good thing I only use it for posting in GDT’s. :mg:

13.1 is out, as well as the iPad version

Thanks for that info. I don't need to be at work until 12:30 today, so I'm downloading it now. Interesting thing is, my iPhone X hasn't dinged at me about either version (13.0 or 13.1). I connected it to my PC to back it up to iTunes before installing the new version and iTunes offered to download 13.0. When I forced my phone to check for a new version, it found 13.1. So I'm installing it via the phone instead of via the PC (though I do have it connected to the PC so it can charge while it does this).

My iPad was dropped from the list several years ago, but that hasn't stopped me from using it for most things except mobile banking and the like—and in that case, it's not so much because of any security fear as it is laziness. It's inconvenient to type in my password when I can use Face ID on my phone. Good chance Ms1995hoo may get me a newer iPad for Christmas this year. She gave me my current one as a Christmas present in 2012. It's time for a new one. The current one mostly works fine, but some apps can no longer update, sometimes typing can be brutally slow or difficult (not to mention the out-of-control autocorrect), and sometimes the web browser just flat-out freezes and spontaneously closes itself.

I envy you, when you eventually get the new iPad it’s going to seem like magic it’s so fast. The advance in processing power since 2012 has just been amazing.

I never wait that long to upgrade.  So I’ll never know that joy.

Yeah, my wife has a newer one and I've definitely noticed how fast it is! Main thing that's kept me from getting a new one sooner was money—there have been more important expenses over the past few years and those naturally took priority.

my iPad is a bit over 2 years old and I hardly use it as I'm either using my phone (XR) or my MacBook Pro.  About the only use I have for it is note taking at volunteer meetings, and watching movies on flights.

Our kids used ours, but the kindle fire is actually much better for them because it has an enormous built in library of kids books

Android issue...

I have Sprint and have been getting misc. pop-up ads on the phone for about a month.  Yesterday it started sending ads when I wake it up...with audio.  LOUD audio!

Any ideas as to what may be going on and how to stop it?

Solved it...I started deleting apps one by one.  It was embedded in a random GPS/Compass/Elevation app...all is good on my $147 phone...

I updated the software on my mom’s devices. Quite the hassle because her Apple password wasn’t working, and then when I went to reset it, the two-factor authentication wanted to use my dad’s iPhone. But since he died this summer, his number is no longer valid. Thankfully, you can get around that if you don’t have access to the authorized phone but you do have access to another device on the account. Glad I went over there. I’m essentially her tech support now and I’m glad I got to back up her devices and such.

Next thing will be when she uses her phone and sees how iOS 13 is different.....but I learned she’s never used the App Store, so maybe it’ll be less of an adjustment than it should be!

Mac OSX Catalina is available today.  Before installing, make sure you don't have any 32-bit apps as they will not run on Catalina:

To check:
- Apple icon
- "About this Mac"
- "System Report"
- Under "Software" select "Applications"
look for the column entitled "64-bit" and sort to see if there are any "no"s

What's an app?

have you installed it yet? I usually wait a bit and see what others think.
