Mattingly might be a possibility.
As a manager, Mattingly has unquestionably established himself as a loser.  Dusty is far superior.

Watchin' Uncle Ray in the studio explaining hitting, etc., I would too.    I wonder if he's up to the grind though.    He'd probably hurt feelings.    He seems like a no nonsense kind of guy.

If Dusty isn’t back I’d go after Ausmus. I like him very much.

The position of manager is overrated anyway.  Ned Yost was the most widely renowned moron in baseball.  Then he got smart in one year.  Now he's stupid again.
Agreed. Look at John Farrell who just got fired.

As far as his managing, I don't think Dusty Baker has won 1,800+ games without knowing how to manage a game. I think we have to defer to Rizzo and Nats management on whether he has done his most important job of managing the lockerroom and continues to have the stamina and drive to devote the needed energy to his job away from the dugout.

If the Nats don't keep Dusty, I'll be interested to see where they go. I assume they won't go after Gardenhire or Wedge or they'd just keep Dusty. I would like them to look for an experienced assistant like Sandy Alomar, DeMarlo Hale, or Joey Cora. I also wouldn't mind them considering Bo Porter. Experienced assistant, had a no win situation with the Astros, and now has added some front office experience with the Braves so he is familiar with the talent in the division.

I almost said I think Tim Bogar deserves a shot as manager but I just read he got fired by the Mariners and replaced with Manny Acta. Automatically disqualifying.

If only Mark DeRosa would get some minor league managerial experience.

I'm a huge fan of his. He's smart and you can tell that he would have the killer instinct needed to win big games. Laid back Dusty has no idea how to put the other team away when it matters most. It really is hard to keep supporting the Nats because of the Lerner's and their cheapness. Rizzo has been handcuffed many times by Ted "I remember the First Great Depression" Lerner and if I were him, I'd hope some other team without a meddling owner would call about a job.

Harper refuses to endorse him publicly. That might be a sign that if he is to stay in DC, he would want to play for a manager that can win championships and not give them away to opposing teams. But I believe Dusty will get 1 more year and that's it. I have no idea who Rizzo and Ted Lerner would hire next, but I have zero confidence in who they will pick.

One of the biggest mistakes was letting Spier be bench coach. Ted and Rizzo should have planned for the future and forced an up and comer to run bench coach duties and wait for 2 to 3 years to take over the nats after Dusty's contract is not renewed.

I think the players love Dusty. I don't really believe he's a bad manager, he's just loyal to a fault. Listening to them talk about how Dusty believes in law of averages, where if a guy is 0-14 he's bound to get a hit at some point was quite infuriating but that trust in his players is what endears them to him. The Werth thing reminded me of Joe Gibbs loyalty to Mark Brunell. Everyone in the world could see the guy was done but the coach still had faith he was going to come alive.

All of this makes him a good regular season manager and a disaster in the playoffs

Randy Wittman managed 2000 or so games and was still clueless.  So number of games in itself is not indicative of knowing what they are doing.

As a manager, Mattingly has unquestionably established himself as a loser.  Dusty is far superior.

I guess you would've passed on Joe Torre before he went to the Yankees, or Bobby Cox before his second, more successful stint with the Braves.

For the record, Mattingly has a career win percentage of .532.  He's also won more postseason series than Dusty Baker in the last ten years, despite managing fewer seasons (not saying much, I know).  He also, for what it's worth, has a track record with instant replay challenges that is far superior to that of Dusty.

Once again, you offer a nonsensical comment.
