well, in my case the Dusty "hate" comes from his long track record of similar moves. He came up short in SF, Cincinnati and Chicago. At some point a pattern starts to develop. No different than Buck up the road.
I hate the fact that I have become a Dusty apologist. When he was hired I was disappointed, thought he was a retread and wasn’t someone you hired if you want to win.
But I’ve become one relative for the people on this board is because of the vitriolic hate on here that is frankly, somewhat irrational. And I’m not talking about thinking he makes bad decisions. He definitely does sometimes. But the hate seems so visceral sometimes it just rubs me the wrong way. I guess I don’t understand it fully and he hasn’t been here long enough for Nats fans to hate him so much.
In any case in every place he’s been, he’s made the team significantly better and the teams get demonstrably worse after he leaves. The giants didn’t win until 8 years after he left. The Cubs didn’t win until 10 years after he left. The Reds haven’t won since
Dusty is friendly enough, good with the media, players love him and he navigated this team to 97 wins. Despite a rash of injuries and an awful bullpen for half the year. That sort of thing has killed other teams. Winning wasn’t a given. Look at the Giants.
Every manager makes mistakes. Most fan bases think their manager is a bum. But i truly don’t understand the level of hatred by some.
