At least matts standard decisions were consistently bad.

Right now its everything. Petit just sat and watched in a role taylor nade for him. Kelley gives up 2 bombs in what i think was his 3rd straight day of work. Rivero has been abused so he couldnt use him. He let oliver perez pitch to wil myers and that was always going to be a problem.

I never thought he was a good manager and watching him every day makes me want to punch a baby

I don't think Matt did five double switches in two seasons.

He didn't have much to work with, really.

Why is Revere not playing every day at this point? He's better than Taylor

Riggleman went crazy on double switches. He'd double switch anyone, including Zimmerman (circa 2009) out. It defied logic.

It had to do with the Padres left hand starting pitcher

They're both woeful.  To say one is "better" than the other just sounds wrong.

Didn't Riggleman found switch out Morse one game when Morse had already hit 2 homers?

EDIT: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL201007230.shtml
Morse homered in the 2nd and 4th, and went out in the bottom of the 6th on a double switch. Nats leading 5-3 over Brewers, Sean Burnett in to pitch; Roger Bernandina goes in to RF. Bernadina flies out to LF in his 1 AB. Nats lose 7-5, Burnett takes the loss.

Revere is a .300 hitter against LHP in his career.

Every time Revere has a good game, Dusty sits him. freaking stupid. Guys don't need this many days off, especially when you have one on the schedule already. Stop disrupting guys consistency and let them play.

That's nice. If we're looking at the here and now, Taylor should be playing for Harper, not Revere

I like Dusty as a players manager but he seems to make tactical errors quite often. For example, not walking Marte in that 18 inning Pirate game, not PR-ing for Ramos earlier, using Paps on his 3rd straight day, etc.

My only counter to that is in a loss, it's really easy to pinpoint the one thing that most directly led to a loss. In a win, it's a lot tougher to figure out which decisions were the ones that led to a win. If he does the same thing five times and gets a win four of them, it's that fifth time that really stands out for people.

yeah but a thing like walking Marte is common sense.. liek not even slightly bad, it's just a complete failure in his duty

Can we change this to extend Dusty Baker or Enjoy Dusty Baker or something?

It really is a pleasure to watch Dusty's pos game conferences.  His post game analysis is always quite thoughtful and sophisticated.  It has been so refreshing to see after Matt Williams.  It really does make me question what Rizzo ever saw in Matt.

I'd guess there are about 1000 non-obvious choices a manager has to make over the course of a year.   it is a bit pedestrian to just focus on a couple a big decisions that went right or wrong that directly led to a win or loss.   But I really feel that the thought, experience and analysis that Dusty puts into each of those decisions has been one of the bigger factors in our turnaround in W-L vs last year.

I'm a Dusty fan, too, but the tradition of the "Fire x!" threads as being for the general discussion of non-players is pretty strong here.   There was a "Fire ___" thread during the managerial search.

Dusty is a terrific in-season manager for getting his players in position to win over a season.  No panic, no inattention, good at deflecting pressure, good at working players through slumps and such.  I'm not really wild about things like batting orders day-to-day and some of the in game strategy calls (although he is no worse than middling on either of those), but I particularly like how he seems to eventually come around on most of the personnel calls.  Good examples are the switch of Werth and Rendon in the batting order and gradually moving Murphy and Ramos to production positions without p'ng off the rest of the club.  I don't recall him ever throwing a player under the bus in his discussions with the press.  Even with Papelbon, I don't get the sense that there was tension towards him from the players, and I take it at face value that he was on-board with the team even when he could not get it done for a stretch that led to his release.

That said, I'm going to guess Dusty will be pilloried if Harper does not start playing like Harper.  Fairly or not, Dusty will be judged by how far this team goes, and it is tough to see this team being dangerous for multiple series without Harper playing well.
