He said today that he sees Taylor more in the 6-7 spot, but doesn't want to get guys out of the slots they're just getting used to yet.

Apparently your spot in the lineup is really important to some players. FP has talked about it a lot.

Consistency is always a good thing.

I would flip Werth and Taylor and feel a little bit better, but Taylor did tear it up in Spring.

Werth and Taylor both can't buy a hit right now. All I know is that someone gotta step up and perform in the leadoff position. Taylor must be really nervous during the regular season. He looked so much calmer in spring training. I don't like him batting leadoff until he can prove that he can get hits or work the pitch count and take walks as well. I think that he'll be a really good player someday and thought that it might be this year, but he's off to a bad start. Yeah it's only two games but he sure looks like 2015 MAT.

has Werth ever not been good as a leadoff hitter? I'm not one to buy into the psyche aspect of batting order position, but if I were (and apparently Dusty is), then I would consider that as a reason to bat him leadoff.

If he was getting the OBP he was 2/3 years ago, sure, but why the hell would anyone not give him meat right now? He's awful.

MurphDawg should be at two, but Rendon is nice there too. I wouldn't mind Tony Two Bags/Murph/Harp/Zimm till Revere gets back. Not ideal, but better than the garbage Werth/MAT are putting out there right now

Dusty addressed that in detail. They had a long conversation - all three: Dusty, Roarke, and Maddox. Roarke convinced them that he was fine and that he wasn't "just saying it". He had been staying loose, and throwing in the clubhouse. Dusty said that it was getting very close to the time when he couldn't go back in.

So Dusty is really no different than Matt when it comes to making pitching decisions.

Did they make that same decision last year? I remember a long rain delay or two.

He sat too long. Especially early in the season that should be an easy decision IMO. That said, I think there's a trend of Dusty trusting his players which is overall probably positive. I hope Maddux's opinion on stuff like this is the most important.

They talked about this on WJFK this morning. Dusty said they had Roark throwing every twenty minutes during the break. Roark assured both Dusty and Maddox that he was good to go. They had faith in him and wanted to trust his own judgement. He did pitch better after the break than before it.

Well he was hammered pretty bad in the first inning - 3 runs. He then gave up 1 run in the next three innings. So there was a difference.

QFT. I don't know who to blame (Roark or Dusty) but not walking Hechavarria with Phelps on deck was pretty stupid. I know Phelps got a hit later in the game but still you have to make that move.

What I am seeing with Roark is he is reverting back to his minor league days---he would pitch well once in a while but get bombed on other days.

What is his real strength? Sitting in the stands I could not see pitch location. But I was charting his speeds. On his fastball anyway (offspeed, that's another story). 91, 92, ..... occasionally 93 but not often. Now, I read that he said that his problem last year was "overthrowing": he'd come in a game knowing he needed to go only an inning or two (as a reliever) so he could throw as hard as he wanted, and he was throwing 95, 96, maybe higher. But he couldn't locate his pitches at those higher speeds, so he was going to dial it back down, which he apparently has. But is he locating his pitches any better? Apparently not.

The general rule of thumb is after an hour you pull the P. I won't be too hard on Dusty yet though as it's early in the year and you wanna see if a starter can go longer in his first start.

I liked the way Dusty handled the pen in the opener. He didn't wait for guys to COMPLETELY melt down before pulling them.
