I wish he had left him out there indefinitely.

+1.

Let Papelbon start the next game and pitch nine innings.

No, I'm sure he didn't. But retreating to the clubhouse when a teammate has just tried to throttle you is not an unreasonable response.

He didn't take Harper out apparently.

Most other people would have learned a lesson. Papelbon thinks those five runs are Harper's fault.

I wish he had left him out there indefinitely.

I was just responding to the other poster who was wondering why he left Papelbon in but took Harper out.

I wasn't contesting... nevermind. I think we're in agreement. :D

@LasVegas51sINS: Wally Backman will be in play for Nats job when Williams is fired.#MLB

Ugh ... that would be worse

And yet, Storen will finish with more saves this season.

Storen will finish with more saves than Wade Davis and Betances. Guess who the better relievers are ...

Please God no. We don't need that crazy wife-beater to put more fuel on this fire. He would have praised Pap's "passion and intensity" today.

It isn't possible to be worse. Papeldouche might even manage the team better than MW

Jon Heyman says that the Lerners almost pulled the trigger on firing Williams several weeks ago. Damn, I wish they had.

Heyman's article is quite good. From what I have seen over the years, Heyman seems to be the one writer who just writes well and doesn't quite get under anyone's skin. I think maybe he has perfected the art of being a National writer in that he doesn't show much bias. Considering that his contemporaries are idiots like Rosenthal, it's not like the list is very HOF worthy.

This was too critical a season to be scared of making a change, especially since the atmosphere had all the elements of a meltdown in place.

I don't blame the Lerners for letting rizzo make the call- I blame rizzo for not doing it

I agree with this.    Pops Lerner probably hasn't fired anyone in 30 years and I'm not sure Mark ever did.    They hire guys to do that kind of stuff and Rizzo is the guy in this case.

He's a lunatic. Google "Playing for Peanuts," or don't if you don't want to hear hours of incoherent violent cursing and screaming. Apparently very "old school," if that means obsession with bullpen roles, no thanks. And if the Nats don't like how Matt "manages tight," well...

Sounds cool to me.  Tell him to bring Bowa as third base coach and Lou Pinella as special advisor.
