The only way to get movement on this is to get the beat guys to hammer Rizzo about it daily. If they leave it alone, he'll leave it alone.

Why?  Didn't Williams win NL Manager of the Year last year?  Isn't this a "superteam" on the cusp of a dynasty?  Isn't a Rizzo a genius who fleeced all of his trading partners into establishing a team that, over multiple years, has had a punchless and injured lineup that would have zero balls if not for lucking into a once-in-a-generation offensive talent?  They aren't firing Matt Williams before the season is over with and they sure as hell aren't firing Rizzo.  If they can turn things around (doubtful) Rizzo and Williams will probably be looking at awards again at the end of the season.

Even though Williams really should've been fired after last year's NLDS debacle, he won't get canned yet either unless we miss the playoffs.  In an ideal world, Williams would resign and maybe Davey could be persuaded to manage the team for the remainder of the season on an interim basis.

The Nats have lost six straight, they're under .500 and they need a change
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/the-nats-have-lost-six-straight--they-re-under--500-and-something-has-to-change-062522035.html

"If the Nats can't show some vigor in the next week or so, Rizzo might just be running of "complimentary things" to say about Williams and may be forced to say something else. "You're fired.""

He needs to backdate this by a week. The time to show vigor was on the road against playoff caliber talent.  A bounceback winning 2 of three against the Rockies after already losing to them at home means nothing.

"Slow to react" at it's worst.  Only this organization would find a way to fire Williams before the offseason but after a realistic window to turn it around has closed.

I keep hitting "refresh" on my browser thinking eventually this morning he will be fired.  It has to happen.  Why hasn't anyone been fired yet this morning?

I think they fired the ticket reps, I let the # ring about 25 times this morning at 11:20 and nobody ever picked up.

I keep refreshing, but Matt Williams is still here.

My prediction: Nats don't win any more games and Matt Williams wins MOY award AND gets contract extension:)

Where is Riggleman??

The only way to get movement on this is to get the beat guys to hammer Rizzo about it daily. If they leave it alone, he'll leave it alone.

:lmao: GMs don't care what beat writers think.

They don't ask tough questions because they don't want to lose access to the FO , free food before the games, breaking news , players and the manager.

I think that Rizzo cares about Ted Lerner. It has always seemed that Boswell spoke for the Lerners, which would make sense because Ted Lerner grew up in Washington and made his money here. Boswell inherited some of the grandeur that was Shirley Povich. If Boswell starts asking Williams hard questions -- and maybe he has begun -- that would mean that the Lerners are very displeased.

I looked up Ted Lerner: born 1925. He was eight when the Nats last won a pennant;  through most of his adulthood the Calvin Griffith Nats floundered and then the expansion Senators were worse. Go on, be angry, Mr. Lerner.
