Lobaton played today. To be fair, who should be hitting fifth?
I'm getting tired of Matt's shtick. His pitcher handling is one thing, I'm neither here nor there about yesterday simply because it was bad luck, but my god why the freak does he keep batting one of the worst offensive catchers in the league fifth? Ramos is absolutely terrible offensively, he's only a 7 hole hitter because we happen to have an even worse offensive player on the team who should be batting 8th but is idiotically batting 7th. I have no idea how many offensive runs Ramos has cost us with GIDPs but it's got to be toward's the league's top. He has been, statistically, the worst offensive catcher in baseball, and overall he's last in WAR among regular catchers.
Remember when we lost game 3 against the Braves, who drove in the only run? Also when we won game 1 against them, who drove in the first one? You might be crazy. Edit:http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=150&type=1&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=10,dOkay he's just out of the top half of the majors in OPS among starting catchers. What a bum.
RBIs as a qualification for a hitter are absolutely meaningless. That being said, we can cherry pick stats all day.6th worst K/BB ratio, 13th worst ISO, 12th worst wOBA, 10th worst wRAA, 11th worst wRC+.This is, of course, JUST looking at catchers and has nil to do with where he bats in the lineup. And he got two damn homeruns against position players.
Seattle's starting catcher isn't even batting .200. He's good defensively and basically all his hits are homers so nobody cares.
Hasn't lack of offense been a chronic problem for the Mariners for years now? Maybe somebody should care.
It's about managing expectations. Few catchers are elite offensive players, and most of those who are get moved positions.
Ah ok. But Wilson doesn't really seem to be elite at catching either
Thomas Boswell @ThomasBoswellWPIn a 9-3 game, 6-1 early by 6th, Williams got Carpenter, Trienan and Rivera warm without bringing them in.
Maybe they needed the work.
Very possible. And maybe Roark just got out of jams

Hi.
Mark Zuckerman ✔ @ZuckermanCSNWilliams says decision to hold Scherzer til Sunday was with long-term in mind, not matchups. "His workload has been immense."
