Now you're talking.  Where are those home improvement pics?

On my phone because I'm too lazy/busy to upload them to Imgur.

I'm not sure I have ever advocated for firing either the manager of gen'l manager but could appreciate some of the arguments especially with Acta and Riggleman and Bowden. I think that this year and as well as last year ( mindfact) MW managed the first month like it was still ST. Now I see him managing like it is game 7 of the WS  except for the blip with Scherzer yesterday. I would have pulled him after the second batter got on like it was a game 7.

Again - letting him start the 8th wasn't the mistake.

Yes. Letting him pitch to Stanton 2 on, 0 out at 110+ pitches when Roark struck Stanton out two days ago was the mistake.

I think Matt got caught up in wanting to watch half a billion dollars face each other in a pressure spot..

I thought he should have pulled Scherzer after the first guy got on base. Also the game before I don't think he should have Uggla try to sacrifice bunt. The guy is a power hitter and not used to bunting and hit a game winning home run recently.

If you're the manager and trying to extend a pitcher to something he's not use to, first, his pc should be unusually low, Scherzer's wasn't.  Next, you need to consider the opposing hitters.  Unless it's a particularly weak hitting team, they shouldn't be at the top of their batting order, the Marlins were at the top of their order and are a good hitting team.

Unless there are multiple injuries in the bullpen that they're not disclosing then sending Scherzer out for another inning was just poor decision making by Williams, especially with an off day today  The Nationals bullpen have pitched among the fewest innings in baseball plus the team has played among the most games in baseball.  Conversely, Nationals starters have pitched among the most innings in baseball.

Williams seems to just not be very good at multi-level thinking which is why I don't think he's well served by his coaching staff.  I don't think the staff has a good thinker on it either.  He needs to higher a coach who's a good thinker and he needs to listen to him for his in-game decision making.

Yes!  It has been over 5 years and more than 3000 consecutive plate appearances since Dan Uggla has executed a sacrifice bunt.

Worked out great for Ramos.

Big difference, Uggla and Ramos.  Uggla is actually fairly fast.  The problem with a guy as slow as Ramos bunting is, you can throw to second to try to get the force out without risk  because you're going to have time to throw to first before he gets there.

And yet MadBaum put it in the bullpen going to 3rd.

$300M Man vs. $200M Man.  I enjoyed it.  If you aren't willing to put Max in those situations why do you have him?  Stanton had taken some ugly swings at some junk, but it didn't work out this time.  I imagine it will most times.

To pitch 7 innings, strike out 10, and leave with a 5 run lead.

Or a one run lead. Honestly, the days of pitchers going deep in to games is over. The time of the exotic, dominant bullpens is at hand.

not sure if this was posted, but here is an interview from last Sunday. Matt Williams talking with Ed Randall on WFAN in NY. Nothing to do with being fired, but I wasnt sure about starting another Matt Williams thread. It is just under 20 minutes in length. Just scroll down and you will see his name in the title.

"It's still early."

He sounded much more "human" than he does with the local reporters...I can't stand his typical deadpan approach with the media.

Since he said that, we're 5-1, so he seems to have had a point.

Glad you checked it out.  And I agree about how guys sound different when not talking to a local reporter. I dont know this to be fact, but I would guess that with local reporters, most managers/ coaches have cliche-type answers for most questions. When they talk with someone from out of town, they might let their guard down a little.
