I saw it too, and I think he caught himself and that's why he started talking about the Nationals and Yankees playing each other.

F.P. kept saying it. I feel like he was watching in the locker room and stupidly decided to repeat it word for word. He needs to let others say it for him, yes.

For all of you heaping on Bryce, I'm glad you never lost your temper and shouted at someone when you were 22.

Hell, I'm 44 and I just let the store manager at Safeway have it because for the second time in two weeks he kicked me out at midnight for "maintenance" even though it is a 24 hour store. I had had a long day and lost it.

22 year old millionaires can have bad days too. Everyone is so high and mighty on this site.

I've said it before, possibly in this thread, but if any of you saw or heard interviews I did when I was 22, you'd fly here to punch me and I'd probably deserve it.

The umpire was wrong but Bryce needs to control his temper.  The excuse that he is just 22 or whatever won't fly.  He's hurting the team when he does it.

2-0 without Harper in the lineup and Williams at the helm

I didn't say anything about Matty!
In the end losing Harper will hurt us. He needs to stay in the games.

Guess they wanted to see their future slugger play.

Everybody wants to see Bryce play.  What will the man-child do next?

I prefer punk, assed, nag. Two ejections in a week should show the world that the umps have the upper hand and the rules about arguing balls and strikes gets you nothing but an early shower.  Unless you're dense (not saying you are turtleman, just building off your post   ;) ) it's plain to see why Bryce has no respect amongst his ballplaying peers. Grow up, Bryce (but keep smacking the hell outta the ball  :mg: ).

One step at a time. This year, plate discipline.

Next year, thick skin.

That's about it, nothing left to fix, right?

His passion for baseball is unmatched.  He really cares, and the game needs that.  He's got talent that's been hyped for so long people become jaded, but we're lately seeing it really start to flow.   Maybe it's a hot streak, maybe he'll lapse back into his old impatience, but you see the boundaries expanding.  I'm just damn glad I'm a Nats fan here, now.   I've paid my fan dues and ready for my team, and Bryce, to kick some ass.     :whip:

Would be nice if he got thrown out for arguing balls and strikes though

On that Wednesday, Harper went 3-for-5 with three home runs. Since then he’s hit .535/.630/1.349 with 10 home runs and five strikeouts. Yes, his home run-to-strikeout ratio is 2:1. Yes, his slugging percentage starts with a number before the decimal. These are silly things done by a silly man who flaunts the realities of baseball before mashing them like a child playing with insects on a sidewalk. Harper’s binge has put him at 3.1 WAR on the season, 0.5 WAR ahead of second place Dee Gordon which is a weird thing to write, but whatever. You have to scroll down and scroll down and scroll down all… the… way… to… seventh before you find Trout languishing with just 2.0 WAR.

One more thing before we let this die, Marvin Hudson was simply awful in this game, period.  Look at brooksbaseball px tool for this game.  His "strike zone" was wrong the entire game.  Just in that third inning, before Harper, strikes 2 and 3 to Escobar were well of the plate then the first pitch Harper than the strike 3 pitch to Taylor was also low.

Did anyone else catch Basball Tonight after that game? Jim Joyce is in the foreground as Hudson ejected Matty, and they freezeframe on Joyce as he rolls his eyes.

I thought I caught something like that during the replays.    Joyce is standing there wondering, almost embarrassed like, "How in the hell did I get in the middle of this CF?"     Good eye comish.

That's a very interesting read.  I knew his "sweet spot" has been towards the outside and thinking about it now, I knew a lot of those pitches were going out to RF but I hadn't put two and two together until reading this.  That's frankly amazing.  Very few people on Earth have the ability to hit with power to the pull side on outside pitches with consistency.

He's the crew chief so he should do something about it other than roll his eyes; like take him to the woodshed so to speak

Jim Joyce is one of the best umpires in baseball and a consummate professional.  I'm sure he would have preferred Hudson not do that and I'm sure he will handle it internally but he's not going to show up a fellow ump in the middle of the situation on national TV.

I'd love to see an owner to show him up during a game- putting his pitch track on the jumbotron while he's calling the game should do it, mlb probably would fine them, but seeing an ump having to call a game with everyone in the house instantly able to judge them would be great

That's what I meant--sounds like this was not the first time Hudson has issues so was wondering if he had done anything about it before.

It's like Williams with Harper--ok to have his back on the field but there needs to be some teaching after the game.

Maybe he's hurting the team in the short term (e.g., for that game) but maybe he's helping himself and the team but letting umpires know they can't crap on him anymore like they did when he came up.

Considering umpires can evidently toss you for little to nothing on a whim with no repercussions, I'm not sure that is a viable long-term strategy.  I think Harper needs to realize that, at least as far as Marvin Hudson goes, he is a target.  In that context, he really just needs to be extra careful to do everything right when Hudson is behind the plate whether that's fair or not.

do we know there are actually no repercussions- the team complains to the league- does the league do anything with the complaints?

My guess is Jim Joyce probably handled it internally but umpires have been suspended before for being jerks in games.
