I guess I'd need to go back and watch the video of it again, but in my memory the sequence went like this:

Bad strike is called.
Bryce visibly reacts with his expression and posture, then turns and steps away to get himself under control.
Williams starts yelling from the dugout that it was a ball.
Umpire turns to Williams and starts yelling back.
Harper gets out of box and chimes in.

To my eyes, it was Harper backing up/sticking up for Matt Williams. While I know it's supposed to be the other way around and the staff get the players back and take the heat, Bryce had it under control until the ump tore into Williams.

There are worse things than Bryce sitting out one game we won but where he demonstrated the (perceived?) rift between him and Williams from 2014 is healed.

I really don't care much at this point in the season- it just adds some theatre and individual games aren't that important. When this stuff happens as a pennant race is winding down or in the playoffs, it gets absurd

Hey bryce harper. Stop being a primadonna and a baby. Step on the box and play ball. The umpire just reminded everyone that bryce harper is not a superstar yet. Stop acting like one.  :hysterical:

For all of you heaping on Bryce, I'm glad you never lost your temper and shouted at someone when you were 22.

Hell, I'm 44 and I just let the store manager at Safeway have it because for the second time in two weeks he kicked me out at midnight for "maintenance" even though it is a 24 hour store. I had had a long day and lost it.

And one more thing for all you "Bryce needs to" bullcrap crowd, hot heads have had lots of success in MLB. Billy Martin, Ty Cobb, Pete Rose, Lenny Dykstra, Roger Clemmons, to name a few.

They didn't have to change to be great. Neither does Bryce. If DC is too polite  town for a guy with passion, NY, Philly and Boston would love to have him.

Bryce didn't start screaming at Hudson until he'd already been ejected so at that point, IT'S ON!

The precipitating event for the ejection was Hudson coming back to the plate after screaming at Matt Williams and telling Bryce to "Get your ass back in the batters box!"  I can't imagine that's happened many times in the history of major league baseball otherwise there'd be a lot more home plate umpires getting their asses kicked.

To top it off, we must remember that Bryce was out of the batters box ENTIRELY because of the actions of Marvin Hudson.  Before Hudson had his fit and started yelling at Matt Williams, Bryce Harper was in the batters box waiting for the next pitch.  It was Hudson who left his position behind the catcher and started all the crap.

Rizzo just gave a bunch of political mumbo jumbo when asked about the ejections and umpire accountability.  He just said a bunch of nothing something.

106.7?    I think they're doin' the whole hour with Rizzo on remote (out of studio).

Rizzo managed to not say when Rendon's rehab assignment might start.

He didn't give any notion of an "early" return.

Nope.  Said he has to be better at that moment than whomever he will be replacing and he can't develop and settle in at the majors level for that reason.

That's what Riz said too.  He told him to stay intense and on fire.  He said all these naysayers don't understand Bryce.

NYY broadcast was actually equally as disgusted with the ejection.

Yep, they were pissed.

Guess they wanted to see their future slugger play.
