Margaret Thatcher passed away this morning.

I thought she was already gone  ...   hmmmm.    I know she was out of the public eye because of her illness.   She was one tough SOB.

Margaret Thatcher passed away this morning.
She lived an amazing life.  She helped put a  spine into Poppy Bush when Kuwait was invaded.  "Don't go wobbly onme, George."  She and Reagan both ended the New Deal era and post ww2 social democracy, which led to reforming the liberal parties (Clinton and Blair).

They probably aren't shedding many tears in Buenos Aires or on Falls Road.

Much as I hated her ideology, I respected her moxie...and for better or for worse, she did irreversibly change the political landscape on both sides of the Atlantic.

Character Actor Milo O'Shea

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/04/arts/milo-oshea-irish-character-actor-dies-at-86.html?_r=0

I saw Milo O'Shea years ago, when he filled in for someone in a small part in a play at the Kennedy Center in DC.  After it ended, I saw him at a nearly empty restaurant across the street from there, at the bar with someone.  We made eye contact, but I left him alone.  I really wanted to tell him how terrific he was as the judge in The Verdict, which won Paul Newman an Oscar nomination. I don't care about autographs anymore, but I regret not speaking to him.  As a character actor, he probably liked being recognized.

The Verdict  ...   one of the great movies of all time.

But did he stop loving her today?

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

I'm not a huge fan of country music but Jones' voice was golden.  What a marvelous delivery.

Same here but that which I do like is the older stuff.

Jeff Hanneman, founding guitarist for Slayer, passed away yesterday at the age of 49. Oddly enough, he was recuperating from necrotizing fasciitis believed to have been brought on by a spider bite, when he died in the hospital from liver failure.

all rock stars eventually succumb to liver failure, if they've done it right.
