Only the second run he's allowed since May 3rd. He's fine.

That pitch to Maybin was disturbingly bad then he gave up hits to two lefties.  I wouldn't call that fine.

My feelings about Thornton aren't just from tonight.  He hasn't looked good all season.  I don't know if it's his decreased velocity but he hasn't looked good.

Hell of a game from the buffalo. Danny checking in with a hit. Lineup looking good and performing well against a good pitching team.

When swinging early is the gameplan, you should swing at good pitches.

pass, no reason to extend him. Several cheaper LH options in the system (Rivero,Solis, etc).

Thornton can be effective if used properly but ideally he is 6th/7th inning option based on LH matchups and nothing more.

Thornton, in 38 PA this season, has been .212/.316/ against RHB. .171/.194 against LHBs in 36. I don't think Rivero or Solis are ready to take that kind of production from him yet, and he's been doing well against both.

The biggest problem with Blevins was he was used too liberally against hitters. Thornton can handle it more and has done well. Thornton's fine. He's not Andrew Miller and you don't have to give him Fort Knox. He's a good Nat.

Ha.  ESPN just showed replay of Cards/Marlins.  Bat goes flying into stands, Cards fan leaps over the seats and boxes out a little kid to get the bat.  Typical.

Need to pitch Roark two innings every game. Only trustworthy reliever other than Storen, who goes max of one inning.Maybe Roark for three (ha!). Nats don't have a one-inning guy for 6th, 7th, or 8th. Given modern pitching, that's a big hole.
