What a disappointing season from Fister. Zimmermann too. This team can't be expected to score more than 4 runs and those two have given up 5, for what must be the third or fourth time each, in back-to-back starts.
I write this as I watch the Bums of Baltimore beat the hell out of AAA pitching in Oakland. Jonathan Schoop. Caleb Joseph. Jimmy Paredes. Who? Of course, they've had their cold streaks, but sometimes it seems there's a philosophical problem here.
Rick Schu put life back into the lineup as soon as they fired Eckstein, but this lineup has still underachieved for two years, and look what happened in October. The way the team is playing you could look for somebody to fire anywhere, but sometimes I wonder if this damn coaching staff ever does any actual coaching, mechanical analysis/adjustments, telling their players HOW to hit this particular pitcher, preparing the team for who they're going to face, or if they just manage emotions, soothe egos and put out fires, and let the players coach themselves.
Who the hell knows. They looked great in the 9th. They got screwed HARD in the 4th with that in-betweener that didn't allow Yunel to advance. Game could have been entirely different and I don't blame the coaches for Ian Desmond striking out with the bases loaded as usual. But this ball club is going in a real bad way and there's no time left.
