On the other hand some businesses give you cheaper if you pay cash.   Yes cash is harder to keep track of. Just  ask the IRS.

I'm increasingly seeing a 3% discount or so if I use a debit card instead of a credit card.

All of the small business owners I know have to pay a processing fee for credit cards but not debit.

I had about $2,200 in car repairs last month. The dealer had a 3% surcharge if paying by credit card so that was a no-brainer. I paid in pennies. :)

(Actually, they accepted a debit card with no surcharge)

We’re moving soon.  Three percent added charge if credit card. They do Zelle so that will work.

Was walking my dog and just heard a ton of gunshots near the stadium. Sounded bad. Feel bad for the families going to Enchant tonight.

Per Alan Henney on Twitter, at least four people were shot on the 1300 block of half street at O street.

To clarify, it was Half St. SW, not SE. Sadly this is not an uncommon occurrence over there. https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/12/21/homicide-dc-police-shooting/

Looks like the DC Council got motivated to commit to taking care of some maintenance issues at the ballpark with a dedicated fund:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/01/02/dc-bill-nationals-park-maintenance-fund-mendelson/

The ballpark reportedly had what some called a keeping up with the Joneses clause that would leave the city responsible for some upgrade over the terms of the lease, something under which the new scoreboard might have fallen.

What that area was before the stadium was built there and what it is now is so different. All the revenue that area generates now has to be more than the $700 million it cost to build the stadium.

I've never had a Korean hot dog, but apparently this chain is opening up at Nats Park this season: https://www.instagram.com/ssongs_hotdog_nationals/

Looks interesting, if a bit wacky.

Apparently deep-fried butter is a thing at the Iowa state fair (which may explain a thing or two about Iowa)

well, you can deep fry ice cream, so this should not be too tough.

The new LED field lighting has been operational for weeks now, but tonight has been the first time I’ve noticed the functionally beyond static white light being tested out. Looks like they can flash on and off rather rapidly, and are capable of displaying all the colors of the rainbow in various animated crawls, sparkles, flashes, etc. Looks like they could be used for some interesting effects, if not overdone.

Interesting; that would be good if they had a warm and not overbearing setting. Would also be good if they didn’t get too cute and do too much flashing after every run, especially as that could be a challenge to epileptics.

Agreed on all points. I feel like it could be used really effectively in the right hands, and the effect is so dramatic that it'll for sure produce a lot of oohs and aahs the first time people see it inside the ballpark, but it also has the potential to be overused to the point of becoming gimmicky, and yeah, we don't need a mass seizure event either.

I think it's really going to look best after sundown, but considering this year's 6:45 first pitch time, it seems like a lot of games through the middle of the summer are going to be wrapping up just as the sun is setting.

A nice, warm 4-5,000k color temperature vs. a cool 8-9,000k, is that what you're thinking?

Interesting note that went with a restaurant closure:

“It is with great sadness that today we announce the closure of Stadium Sports Bar & Smokehouse.⠀

“Due to the negative consequences of the global pandemic, especially the drastic reduction in the number of government workers returning to work in DC, the passing of initiative 82 and the uptick in crime, we have concluded that it is no longer economically sustainable to continue to operate Stadium Sports in the current location.⠀

“Despite today’s announcement and the closing of this chapter, we are extremely proud of all that we have achieved, and remain hopeful for a future where Stadium Sports will return in another location.⠀

“I wish to thank every member – past and present – of our incredible team, for helping make Stadium Sports a truly special place. We would not have come so far or achieved so much without you. I also wish to thank our guests and our friends within the local community for their many years of support - We are forever grateful to you all.”
