Yeah I wouldn't want any part of him.

I would be happy for the Nats to sign him.  Along with Rendon and Stras.  It's not my money!

I think as Defending Champs you have to spend market value to bring the band back.  Unless somebody gives Rendon a totally stupid deal, you match or better it.  Keep him here.  Work it out with Stras.  Bring Howie back along with Zim to split 1B.  Let this group defend their title.

I can’t see any scenario where he comes back. The Lerners Re still going to offer deferred money and some players are simply going to say no. It’s nice we won when we did because we’re going to lose a lot of pieces.

I still think we resign Rendon. Call me crazy but I just get the feeling this guy Will resign for 7/250.

I could even see him signing for $35 MM AAV and 6 years. That's $210MM but 1 year less than the reported offer, but it gives Boras his record AAV.

I literally get chest pains when I think about Rendon's FA.

It's a family condition: My dad spent our entire summer vacation yelling at strangers about what hell there will be to pay if the Lerners don't sign Tony.

One of them turned out to be Ted Lerner's son-in-law, a principal owner. Here's hoping my nutcase father made enough of a lasting impression to move the needle.  :hysterical: :nervous: :panic:

The payroll for the Nats is the 3rd highest in baseball so its very interesting to see how they figure out the BP and future contracts. Because while I believe Rendon deserves to stay I don't know how we can afford Rendon and Soto while giving up salary somewhere else. Zimmerman will get considerably less so you save maybe 10-12 million there. Dozier is gone so that's 9 mil off the books. Gomes could be gone so that's 7. Rodney is 5. So you deduct all those salaries and its still not enough to cover Rendon's salary price.

While I absolutely want Rendon back 100% I want to lock up Soto for life. He will be the one to take the torch from Zimm as FOTF after Ryan leaves.

Tony got paid $18.8 million in 2019.

Since any contract is backloaded (whether there is deferred money or not and making no difference to AAV) then the FO aren’t actually going to have to find as much as you might think for 2020. Say $6.2 million extra for 2020, albeit with the requirement to find more as the years go by.

As for Soto: Max’s contract will be over (as far as AAV) at the end of 2022 so money becomes available for Soto’s arb years.

Definitely more chest pains to think of Rendon in any other uniform. Especially an NL uni.

I was hoping that Rendon had enough ties to Washington to want to play here. He always said it wasnt really about the money but yet here we are. I really thought the Youth baseball academy that he cares so deeply about would make him want to stay. I really hope whatever happens it happens soon. Do not drag this out like Harper.

One bread crumb I am trying to hold onto as good news. Everytime a free agent has left us ( a big name ala Harper, werth, Desmond.. I'm sure there have been many more) Right after the season ended there was a good bye Nationals fans I love you post somewhere on social media. As far as I know neither Strasburg or Rendon have posted a Dear John letter to Nats fans yet have they?

Why would they post that before they even are remotely close to signing?

You dont get those until things are set in stone. Unless your name is Antonio Brown.

Pretty sure those are written AFTER they've signed with a new team.

I think Bryce did it fairly close to the end of last season. After he got the envelope with Ted Lerner's offer, but way before he signed.

That's pretty weird isn't it?  You shouldn't write your dear john letter until you've officially moved on I would think.
I just googled it and the only "thanks DC!" post I see Bryce wrote was before he came to play his first game as a Phillie, did he really write one after the end of the season but before he signed with someone else??

Bryce did it on sept 27, 2018 ( I just checked). It was the last home game and he posted a montage of photos of him waving and saying thanks DC and Nats fans. He did a more formal one after he signed but the first was a pretty good indication that he had no intention of staying.

Ian Desmond did it after the last game as well and before he got a new contract. Same with Werth

And Garret Cole already did his to Houston. I think if the player knows beyond a doubt they dont want to return they usually tip their hand and say goodbye. The fact that neither have yet may be a good sign.... at least that's what i want to believe

I don't remember that about Bryce at all, I was actually holding out hope he'd be back which I'd never have done if I knew he'd said goodbye already.  The other two knew they weren't going to be asked back so maybe I get those but Bryce doing it before officially signing somewhere else just astounds me.

Cole basically said goodbye when he put on the Boras hat after the last game.  I believe Stephen will be back, but I don't have a lot of hope that Anthony will.

Stras is 80/20 Back

Rendon is about as 50/50 as they come.

If Soto didnt emerge as an absolute stud this year I think its so obvious we resign him.

We are going to miss those 100+ RBIs if he goes. Those cannot be easily replaced.

I think that sums up the most likely outcome.
