Spirits were legal but beer was not in Iceland until pretty recently ('89 or '90)...probably because it was an inefficient way of getting all buggered up and people were spending too much time pissing instead of rowing.

It could just be that I'm fairly easy to please, but I had the Flying Dog Dead Rise multiple times this past week - Camden Yards on Sunday, Spider Kelly's in Clarendon last night - and I really like it. Drank three at the ballgame and two last night. All were bottles. Haven't found it on tap anywhere yet.

I was shocked at how good, and true to the flavor, Flying Dog's Old Bay beer was.

Found it in a corner store two weeks ago. Haven't seen it since. The old bay flavor is mild. I only notice it sometimes. That is probably a good thing. It could have become overwhelming. It's good though. Could probably drink a large quantity of them

Stopped by Delmarva's Southern Cafe & Taphouse with a neighbor last night.     Had the following   ....   Lost Rhino, Shadow of Truth, Striped Bass and a concoction by Weyerbacher.     The only questionable beer was the Weyerbacher.    Not real sure what they were trying to prove with this brew   ...   can't remember the specific name (3 Monks?).     Also hit an old regular from back in the Ashburn brewery days   ...   Dominion Oak Barrel Stout.

It's a summer ale brewed with Old Bay.

I find it to be meh.  Every once in a while I get a swig that has some old bay in it, but more than not it just tastes like a summer ale.

If you have a chance try and find Baying Hound Aleworks off of Guide Dr in Rockville ( a nano brewery).  They brought an old bay beer to last years BAM craft beer festival in Frederick that was on point!  They are suppose to have more of it starting sometime this month.

Also instead of salting the rim of a Mexican beer can, you could probably just old bay it. Or just do it to a natty boh can. Any can really

I have never been to a World of Beer location, but I'm told our relatives in Fort Myers will be taking us to the one down there next week. Anyone been to one of them? Comments?

There is a WOB in Arlington and Reston.  The one in Arlington never impressed me, as I only went there once and there were better places.  But it could be different in Fort Myers, for WOB started in FL

There's one in Dallas. A little expensive, plan on paying $1-2 more for everything than usual. Decent drafts, almost endless bottle menu. If it's in Florida you should be able to try some Cigar City or Funky Buddha brews. They let you BYO food, so what we do here in Dallas is get takeout from the Thai place across the street, then come to WOB with our curries, grab brews, and watch baseball.

after a bunch of skunked beers at the brickskeller and Rustico, I've come to prefer a smaller beer menu. To me the appeal of those places is trying stuff you can't find anywhere else, but the down side is that the rare stuff may have been sitting for months

Brickskeller was a bright light in an otherwise dark world back before the Big Beer Boom...but yeah, a Golden Pheasant might have been sitting around for years (and that after the long crossing of the Atlantic in the hold of a ship).

Thanks. I'll see what they want to do on the food aspect since we're the visitors. I've had Cigar City's Jai Alai IPA in bottles and it's been good stuff, but I just looked at their website and unfortunately they don't have it on tap. Kind of amusing, actually: They have a bunch of Dogfish and Victory stuff on tap, same stuff I might drink around here! I see they have a schwarzbier that's a collaboration between Cigar City and another Florida brewery whose name is illegible on their website (the .PDF isn't displaying properly). May have to try that stuff.

Surprising lack of Florida beers on tap, but I guess maybe there just aren't enough breweries of a high enough volume to supply draught beer.

Today's NYT reports that "Edmund's Oast" in Charleston, SC, brews, quote, "peanut butter and jelly beer".
