Read an article about how Matt Kemp would fit in perfectly with us, thoughts?

I think All-Star caliber talents fit well on any squad.

that terrible article's logic:

the dodgers have lots of expensive outfielders, so they should trade their best one to us

Yea, I think they're more likely to dump Either.

And Puig is their best OFer

Puig probably will be their best one, but Kemp is right now.

Good thing we're going after starting pitching when the problems we have are on offense.  To make it worse, we're considering trading away one of the guys that MIGHT actually help our hitting move foreard next year.  I'LL SAY IT AGAIN.....WE  DONT IMPROVE THE O.........WE BARELY FIGHT FOR A WILD CARD IN 2014, AT BEST.  fact.

and I'll add that bench additions are not the kind of offensive upgrades i'm referring to.  Not significant enough.

Verducci was saying that the Dodgers are trying to move one of Kemp, Crawford, or Ethier. Makes some sense with Puig.  Can't have that much money on the bench, even if you are the Dodgers.  Whether we have what they want, the need, or are willing to take the bump in payroll is another question.

Would you give Matt Kemp a 6 year/$128M contract if he were a free agent?

Given the unreliability of all the trade rumor sites and "journalists", I think the best off-season move is to read Jim Brosnan's, "The Long Season". Before Bouton wrote "Ball Four", Brosnan kept an account of rthe 1960 season. Might hunt down the book about Mickey Vernon, the long-time Nats 1B who won the AL batting title twice. I went to my first game, age six, to see Vernon receive the Silver Bat from Hillerich and Bradsby.

Meanwhile, I have no idea what Rizzo will do. I hope he ignores Robbie Cano, as much as I admire Cano and as little as Rizzo cares what I, or any other fan, hopes.

...and President Eisenhower personally presented the bat to Washington Senator Mickey Vernon at Griffith Stadium..

Do you recall that as well, Welch?  Had to be pretty cool for a 6 year old..

We'll apparently Rizzo is listening on Span now.  I'm not reading into that at all.  Span probably doesn't go anywhere.

I could see Span being moved. I wouldn't be opposed to it either.

Is that where Span's (just now) tweet, 'Here we go again'  comes from?

Maybe.  I think he proved himself in the second half, and this only makes sense if the Nats are making a run at Ellsbury.  If Ellsbury is going to get what he is projected to get, that's an awful lot of money for a guy who has a speed game more than a power game.

Ellsbury won't be worth what he gets.

Boras: Hey, I wanna see if the Mariners/Tigers/Rangers will pay Ellsbury $100 million.
Rizzo: You want to put out a rumor that we're in on the bidding?
Boras: Might help scare up the cash.
Rizzo: Go ahead and say we're looking to trade Denard Span to make room.
Boras: Great, I'll call Jon Heyman at 4:15 a.m. He'll be awake!

safer bet than ellsbury. we would have to get rid of span though, makes no sense to move him to lf, no room for harper or werth. who wants eithier and crawford? im sure they would love to get that crawford contract off their hands
