Aren't there a ton of indications that some here over-rate Suzuki's defense?

Lindbergh says there are too many variables for the pitch framing data to be absolute. What he has done,beside the grading,is look at characteristics of good vs poor framing techniques. IIRC Suziki tends to have his glove drift while receiving.

I think the Nats should make a three year, 45 million dollar deal for Mike Napoli. I'd love to see a trade for someone like Scherzer or Price, but the only way I see that is trading Rendon along with someone like Cole and Giolito. I would feel better about trading Rendon if there was news that Espinosa actually got his shoulder fixed as it would make me feel more comfortable knowing that Espy *could* return to form.

Napoli is still a risk with his hip. My sense is the Sox will offer make a qualifying offer to him, so it would also cost us a draft choice. If he were not offered a QO, then I might be comfortable with 2/$30MM, with an option, but I think the Sox will offer that.

I'm OK with ALR and Moore, frankly, as long as Williams gives Moore enough time in the field to stay sharp. That means every lefty, one of Span or ALR sits, and maybe sneaking Moore in against a few righties.

I don't think the AVN will be as much of an issue playing 1B every day. He brings that "true" power threat into the lineup. The draft choice will be a loss, but I'm willing to think that the draft choice compensation will also drop his contract value or length which makes him opportune for the Nats. SPH had a great thought a while back, stating that the Nats should focus on decently high AAV short term ventures. Napoli fits the bill perfectly.

Moore looked fine to me after his time in the minors. Davey kind of messed him up early by not getting him playing time. As Blue put it, he was in spring training form when he did get his playing time in the majors while everyone else had a month into the season. Moore has power, if that is what you are looking for, and more position flexibility than Napoli at this point. Napoli is not a catcher anymore. Not an inning this year.

Moore has a .830+ OPS when Davey isn't/wasn't freaking up his playing time. He needs to play so that in two years we can trade him for Alex Meyer.

After giving it more thought, how many teams really match up well with the Tigers for Scherzer? I'm assuming that the Tigers would love to fill a need at 2B without having to delve into going for the likes of Cano. Of the teams with 2B players to deal, the Cards, Angels, Nats and maybe Red Sox could only pull that off. Obviously the Cards have the best assets to deal here with Kolten Wong and the plethora of young arms followed closely by the Red Sox who could deal Bogaerts and pitching. The Angels have Kendrick, but not much else beyond that that would interest the Tigers. I'm thinking Rendon, Storen, Cole and Leon could work. That is a top position player, closer, top pitching prospect and a backup catcher to Avila. Still, the Tigers would actually have to listen to deals for Scherzer, which they have stated that the won't, at least as of yet.

Second base and pen help are what the Tigers need most. They want to get Smyly into the rotation but with how well he pitched in relief this year they would need to bolster the pen quite a bit first. While the return would be far less I would much prefer them to deal Porcello and lock up Max. A lot of that depends on how much Mr Illitch wants to spend.

The 2014 Tigers will have the highest payroll they've ever had after a lot of players get arbitration money. I don't expect any major signings but am anticipating a lot of little additions.

As a Tiger fan yourself, would you think that Rendon, Storen, Detwiler and Leon would enough for Max? Storen and Detwiler are relatively cheap and can bolster the pen quite a bit, moving Smyly into the rotation. Rendon and Iglesias in the MI would surely be a strong DP tandem, and Rendon is cheap and controlled for the future, a good move for the Tigers. yea the tigers trading scherzer is the definition of selling high. we need our offensive players. also, you can always get relievers on the FA market. Phil hughes, joe nathan, grant balfour, brian wilson, or joaquin benoit(who was still pretty decent last year) could be signed by the tigers instead of using up any of scherzer's value in acquiring some other team's bruce rondon from three years ago. we should sign colby lewis(or ricky nolasco, bronson arroyo) to be our 5th starter, and grab some of the above bullpen guys
