Nats aside, how does he have steroids written all over him? He had 12 HRs in the month of September...in 2009. Exploded in 2010 for 54 HRs, hit 46 in 2011, and 25+ past 2 seasons while missing significant time because of injury. He's stated countless times he's been drug tested a bunch of times.

That's just such a crappy, ignorant answer. Even if he'd be a terrible fit for Washington.  Not to be THAT GUY but even Gio has been in hotter water regarding steroids than Bautista.

Massive increase in performance, particularly power that seemingly came from no where. From 2005 - 2009, he didn't slug above .420. Then, all of the sudden, he has 50+ homer power in a home run neutral park? And since then, we've seena drop off with 2013 being the most obvious.

If it's not PEDs, it's simply regression. But he never had power prior to his 2010 season, so I remain skeptical.

Dwayne Murphy completely changed his batting approach and stance. I remember a big article in ESPN the magazine a year or two ago.

Doesn't explain why he's regressed since 2010. Maybe it's age. Maybe he was just really, really lucky. But you're not getting 2010 or 2011 Bautista anymore.

Would you deal Rendon, Storen and a minor league arm for Scherzer?  As much as I'd hate to admit it, I'd actually think about doing this and give Espy, Lombo and Walters all a shot at 2B.

No, pitching hasn't been that big an issue, hitting has.

I don't think he will ever be a 25 HR guy.  He is much more likely to be a .300 hitter with between 15-18 HR.  I think the team definitely needs more middle of the order presence but outside of Cano, it just isn't there.  I will admit that as much as I'd love to have Cano, I'm not inclined to watch a guy deteriorate into his late 30s making 30 Million a year.

If Espinosa gets healthy and can hit .250 with 25 bombs and 20 SB, would that offset the pain of losing a guy like Rendon in a trade?  That's even speculating that the Nats trade for a bat that doesn't seem to be out there or pitching.

Also, a realistic move might be bringing in someone like Brett Cecil.  I think he could be had relatively cheap and would definitely help the pen out on the left side.  I am a little concerned to see if he can repeat his success.

I think he's a future .300 plus hitter and will probably max at around 25 homers, maybe 30 if all the stars line up correctly. I don't think he'll ever be the defensive player Espy is, but I hink he'll be a far superior hitter.

what do we expect from bryce next year? he was supposed to be the monster in the middle of the order do we stray from that plan? i dont think we really need scherzer especially since he is prob only a rental.
