Didn't Goodwin play like ass this year ?

No. Some people on here push the narrative that he sucked because he hit .252 in his first year in AA, but they ignore his .354 OBP and 115 OPS+.

Goodwin is very much still a legit prospect.

I'm not too concerned with adding another arm like Price through trade.  Honestly it will clear out any real depth that the team has already.  I even wanted to trade earlier in the year, but I think holding onto guys makes more sense and if the team is unhappy with Jordan or Roark for the 5th spot, look for a low leverage pickup like an older guy.  I'd really like Bronson Arroyo if the Reds haven't already worked out some sort of a deal for him.

The Rays are going to want a corner outfielder, a first base bat, or a shortstop who is better than Escobar. We don't have any of those to spare right now. The Rays will still contend next year, so the idea of trading Price when they have him under team control through 2015 is kind of absurd.

He's coming off a $10.1MM contract and has 2 more years of arbitration.  That's at least a $30MM commitment, maybe closer to $35MM.  The Rays will not pay that.  He's getting traded for either prospects, if they are satisfied with a top 3 of Moore-Cobb-Archer, or mix of prospects and MLB regulars to fill the holes in left and 1st.  Whether the Nats could put together a mix that's right is another matter.

His situation is different from Shields in that (1) shields was more affordable for an acquiring team ($10.25MM commitment in 2013 and a 2014 option at $13.5MM with a $1Mm buyout); the market for Shields was bigger because of the affordability; (3) there was the Wade Davis kicker; and (4) Dayton Moore.

Sure, getting Myers is kind of the equivalent of getting Profar or maybe Lindor, and clearly we don't have a prospect to match that. however, there are not a lot of MLB ready corner OF / 1B prospects among the top guys who are on teams that might be interested in Price.  I don't see the Twins making the deal, nor Houston, Miami, or the Cubs, so that pretty much takes care of the top 20 or so prospects (OK, Bogaerts shows decent power, but they do not trade him in the division to rival).  You get down to the Castellanos level, but that is another team that looks pretty set on its rotation.  That why I would expect a Price trade to involve deep prospects with upside and some bandages to cover the roster holes.

I think Cole is thought of as more than a 4th starter talent, and Solis is well regarded as well.

Price lost 2MPH off his fastball. That's too large of a drop for a 27 year old to experience without some explanation

Phil Wood on the first bench player the Nats should sign: He wants Juan Pierre on this team. Pretty much called him a hall of famer.

Don't need Price. Stras-Gio-Zimm is a top 3 that's more than good enough to win.

Gotta solidify the backend and bullpen, and get a righty 1B to platoon with Laroach.

Could Lincecum be signed on a 1 year deal maybe like Haren? See if he can rebound a little bit more?

I love Timmy but the only way he regains his dominance is if he goes to the Rockies or the Mariners.

So this is probably funny, or makes baseball sense, but whichever it is I don't follow.

I'd guess that with their pitching depth, Tampa would want high quality major league ready position prospects, especially middle infield and maybe catcher. Who can we offer? Danny?
How can you say major league ready and Danny Espinosa in the same sentence?

It's a bad joke

Lincecum was caught with marijuana a few years back and looks like he belongs in a stereotypical stoner movie. My joke was that he started sucking because he got off the weed.

I was joking.

I have this horrible feeling that we're gonna sign Josh Johnson to an Edwin/Haren contract. :spaz:

i can't see Johnson getting anything more than a minor league deal with an invite to a camp.

MLBTR speculates Tim Hudson gets 1/$9 million.  I'd pay that to put him in our rotation.

No one mentioned this yet...

Quote
Starting pitching is still the team's top priority this offseason, but an upgrade at catcher has leapfrogged left field for the team's No. 2 priority, writes MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm in his latest Blue Jays Inbox. Chisolm notes that the free agent market will be expensive and competitive and adds that the Jays are interested in Wilson Ramos of the Nationals, though he would be an expensive trade target himself (in terms of prospects). Still, Chisolm writes that GM Alex Anthopoulos "seems determined" to make an upgrade behind the dish.
