So, for those in the "move Zim to 1B" camp, which of the following moves would you most like to see:

1. Move Zim to 1B, Rendon to 3B and bring back Espinosa to play 2B.
2. Move Zim to 1B, Rendon to 3B and trade for Howie Kendrick.
3. Move Zim to 1B, leave Rendon at 2B and trade for Chase Headley.

I know with all the news of Jose Dariel Abreu that it might make sense to just get a first baseman and leave the players where the are now, but saying the Nats don't buy in on Abreu or obtain a Morse or Morales in the offseason but still want to shift Zim over, what makes the most sense?

Fukuoka is in Kyushu, Japan. I think it might have been the intended target for Fat Man but was fogged in so Nagasaki "lucked" out.

Anything to keep Danny off the field. Unless he has the surgery and proves he can rake again. I will never forget what I saw from him to begin this year.

Yep, Espinosa has pretty much used up his reservoir of good will.

My bad. This makes tons of sense then as no one in Japan would watch Chinese baseball, lol. I just assumed the qualifier was in China, so i'm obviously a racist idiot.

My wonder is if the Padres will actually trade Headley. I like the idea of a switch hitting bat, especially in an infield that is all right handed. Kendrick is a great option as well due to his team friendly contract. I'm also for getting an OF bat if sitting Span is worth while.

Headley is a FA after next year and I don't think he'll be going back to SD. They'd get a better return for him this off season than they would as a rental next July.

chase headley was great last year but this year has an OPS of .716. He will be 30 next year and really only a rental. We are gonna have to outbid the Rangers and the Red sox for Abreu. I would rather they sign Ellsbury than Cano. Not trying to be the third party in a Dodgers/Yankees bidding war.

Bench would be Morse, LaRoche, Span, Lombo
Why release or trade for nothing and eat salary. If you are going to eat salary, eat it on the bench.
Forget this "they are everyday players" crap....they are everyday players that did not perform. They can get paid to be very good bench pieces. We gave Morse a chance to make money and he didn't, so he can come back where the fans and clubhouse love him and play just about us much as he has been anyway. He can have Ah-ha back, and they can stop playing it in the 7th...oh and Teddy never wins again.

Wouldn't it be cool to win a bidding war for something other than Jayson Werth? Not a Werth bash, but the next biggest bidding wars we won were pillow contracts for E-Jax and Haren. there's no evidence we were bidding against anyone for ALR this year and the first contract I don't think had many other suitors.

I would be happy if we won the abreu and ellsbury bidding wars. maybe throw tim lincecum a high one year deal as well. if he sucks move him to the bullpen.

an idea i've kicked around in my head is this:

Move Zim to 1B and give Walters a shot at either 2B or 3B and play Rendon at the open spot. he's been killing it this year at AAA, so at least give him a shot in spring training. if anything, he could replace Tracy on the bench

Walters is definitely a utility guy. Not the best glove, or so I've heard, and high K rate and can't walk. He can rake, but that's about it.

Headley is an interesting case. His second half so far he has hit much better, just without the power. I only consider him an option because of his contract status and his defense at 3B. If you are San Diego, surely you want a good haul for Headley, but if he is who he is, a .265/.345/.400 hitter with 10-15 HR a year, what do you expect back? If I was Josh Byrnes, my asking price is exactly what the Angels want for Howie Kendrick. Overall the two players are eerily similar. Headley strikes out more, but also walks much more. Kendrick over his career has been more consistent with his power numbers, Headley has had one good year.

Neither Headley or Kendrick are "mashers" for the middle of the lineup, that is unless Headley repeats 2012 again. If Zim moves to first, I would hope that he could do something to add some more power to his bat. Maybe go from being a true three hole hitter to being a true clean up guy. If that happens, then Headley or Kendrick don't look bad anywhere in the offense.

If Abreu's all they say he is, then you'd think Rizzo hasn't got any choice but to get him. Can you imagine him and Harper in the middle of that lineup? Rizzo's was in on Chapman and Cespedes, wasn't he, just didn't win the bid? Not sure if he was in on Puig or not. Gotta think he'll be in the middle of this one. If the A's can win one of these things, no reason the Nats can't.

Good point about A's winning but I definitely think with Cespede's and Puig's recent success will bring many bidders to the market. I can only imagine what such a bat can do in this lineup. I mean, hell, removing LaRoche and placing him there would be an instant upgrade! Then again, I don't know how his defense is. I just hope Rizzo makes his best efforts on this guy. That bat has serious potential and would help our offense out big time.

Zim would HAVE to get that shoulder fixed if the go after him, one way or the other or swap him and Rendon...

Honestly, if the offseason *only* consisted of signing Abreu and extending Zimnn and Desi, i'd be pretty content.

I would too, actually, but that would probably mean that I believe that the offense this year was absolutely unlucky. Again, Span and LaRoche weren't really hitting the way we wanted them to but neither was anyone else (except Werth).

I think the extensions are definitely necessary. I would hope that we would upgrade our bench too.

Of course there is no reason the Nats shouldn't be in on Abreu, but they will either make up an excuse or just be the second highest bidder. Prior to 2012 I wanted Rizzo to put in bids on Darvish and Aoki. Look where that went, lol.

Given the Nats reluctance to sign Latin FA, I'd be surprised if the Nats win the bid. Hell, I think Rizzo stands pat with Span and LaRoche and does nothing to improve the team. I'm not that naive to think LaRoche will put up another career year or Span will be a .300/.350/.420 hitter.

Well, considering they have been in on some of the bigger guys, I wouldn't say they've been reluctant on the bigger names. Only one team gets to win the bid and since it's not an open bidding process, it's a bit of a crap shoot, if I understand the process correctly (or is that just for the asian players). I'd imagine they'll bid competitively.

Of those, trading for Kenderick. But I don't see Kenderick or Utley being moved. I'd like to see what Espinosa can do first.

Rizzo will make a fair offer, he won't get him, but he'll make a fair offer
